🍐Srimathe ramanujaya namaha🍐

🥝Swamy, please forgive this stupid for asking these kind of non- sense questions.
But still, I want to clarify🥝

Yesterday, I heard a upanyasam by D.A. Joseph swamy. He told that Rama ate non-veg and drank liquor because, it is simply a kshatriya lakshana . He also said some verse from sundara kaandam( Hanuman speaking with seetha in Ashoka vanam) valmiki ramayana to prove his statement.
“ந மாம்சம் ராகவோ புங்க்தே ந சாபி மதுசேவதே|
வன்யம் சுவிஹிதம் நித்யம் பக்தமஷ்ரநாதி பஞ்சமம்||”
🍇Meaning:🍇 He is not eating meat anymore, nor indulging in liquor and he is just eating the fruits available from forest.

After this, i asked this question to another sri vaishnava. He also said ,”rama ate meat” and gave me some pramanams from valmiki ramayanam.

“சதுர்தஸ ஹி வர்ஷானி வத்ஸ்யாமி விஜனே வனே|
மது மூள பளைஹி ஜிவன் ஹித்வா முனிவத் ஆமிஷம்||”
🍇Meaning: 🍇I shall live in a solitary forest like a sage for 14 years, leaving off meat and living with roots, fruits and honey.

“Idam medhyamidaM svaadu niStaptamidamagninaa|
evamaaste Sa dharmaatmaa seetayaa soha raaghavah||” (2-96-2)
🍇Meaning🍇: Rama, whose mind was devoted to righteousness, stayed there with Seetha, saying, “This meat is fresh, this is savoury and roasted in the fire”

(Sita promising Ganga meat- rice on safe return)
“Suraagha TasahasreNa maamsabhuutodanena cha|
Yakshye tvaam payamaa devi puriim punarupaagataa||”(2-52-89)
🍇Meaning🍇: oh goddess! After reaching back the city of ayodhya, i shall worship you with thousand pots of spirituous liquor and jellied meat with cooked rice well prepared for the solemn rice”

(Lakshmana and Rama hunting deer and wild boar)
“Tau tatra hatvaa caturah mahaa mR^igaan|
Varaaham R^ishyam pR^isatam mahaa rurum||”(2-52-102)
🍇Meaning🍇: Having hunted there four deer namely varaaha, Rishya, prisata,mahaaruru( the four principle species of deer) and taking quickly the portions that were pure, being hungry as they were pure, being hungry as they were, Rama and lakshmana reached a tree to take rest in the evening ”

After reading this, i am totally disturbed. They ( joseph sir and my friend) are simply saying , It is a Kshatriya lakshana. Rama wanted to live as like a full Kshatriya.
Then my next question to them is ” marrying many wives is also a Kshatriya lakshana. But why did Rama refused it?”

I am requesting you to say whether the above is true or not? Did Rama really ate meat?

How would our acharyas and alwars interpret in this matter and accept that Rama ate meat?

Rama who was said to be suddha sattvik, why ate rajo and tamo guna foods? Then it means Rama too had Rajo and tamo guna ( totally wrong)

Rama and seetha who are full of mercy and kind, and who are the parents of all living beings, how can they eat meat. How can they eat their own children? ( Where did Rama’s mercy gone- totally wrong)

Did Rama hunted animals? To just taste it?

🍏I can’t believe this. I am requesting you to please answer for this question.🍏

🍈( Please forgive this stupid)🍈

Rama was the role model of all people . We should follow rama.how can Rama ate meat?. If he ate meat, they people will misunderstand and eating meat..

Did really Rama hunt? Hunting animals is also a Himsa.
If hunt animals then people will start doing Himsa, since he was the role model.

So much confusion

Jai Srimanarayana

No sorry, It’s ok, we can understand this question.

No. Sri Rama never ate meat or took any intoxications. It’s just cooked up verses. Most puranas or Ithihasas or upanishads are not as it is. So these are mental speculations.

If these verses were there in Srimate Ramanuja times, he would had refuted this. It is post 1200 AD addition. Not an original Verses.

@Das, yes swamy you are correct.
But I can’t understand why Joseph swamy ,who was a great bhagavatha, said like this

Sometimes some say different explanations. Why? It’s opinions, not facts.

If someone say anything “bad” to Sri Rama, one should reject him/her.

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

This question has been dealt in detail in two threads. Adiyen could not find my thread but the one below is more elaborate

Clarification in ramayana Aranya Kanda sarga 11 verse 57

Adiyen had this argument with Joseph Swamy long back. One thing adiyen concluded let’s stay away from BhAgavatha ApachAram.

There is no point in argument as its not giving me mana shAnthi. Ippa idha prove panni nA enna panna poren?

Joseph Swamy alavukku adiyenukku arivu kidaiyAdhu. So adiyen was contended with Dharma sandeha explanation.

Adiyen too wanted to know the same no 2nd thoughts.

Let’s not point out anyone. Our understanding is our priority not how others understand certain things.

For us let’s follow our sadhAchAryAs. We have Guru Parampara why follow someone else?

Those who are new may follow others.
