Adiyen Namaskaram Swami!!!

SrImathE RAmAnujAya namaha!

What are some steps to being and living simple? Adiyen tried some steps but faced heavy opposition, so confused right now. Should we not wear simple or old clothes? Elders at home don’t approve and quote the Tamil saying: “AaL paadhi Addai paadhi”… Now adiyen is really confused because this is becoming an issue every time adiyen wears old or very simple clothes. But isn’t minimizing our needs also important?

Adiyarkkuadiyarkku namaskaram.

Both the following verses (from Thiruppavai) are two aspects of simplicity:

#2

நெய்யுண்ணோம்; பாலுண்ணோம்; நாட்காலை நீராடி
மையிட் டெழுதோம்; மலரிட்டு நாம் முடியோம்;

#27

#2 When things are not favourable for Krishna bhakthi we will not use them at all. #27 When things are favourable for Krishna bhakthi we will delightfully use them.

So, if wearing some good looking clothes avoids unnecessary banter with elders and helps you focus on your devotion in heart, please go ahead and do so. Satisfying elders on simple, silly, inconsequential things (like clothes) will help you hold your ground on more important things in your practises; they will be willing to make some compromise on those (more important) things). On the otherhand, we if are adamant in small things, they will try to be stricter in case of more important things too.

Later on when you are more independent to make your choices and decisions you may follow the small things also.

Sri:

Being Simple is related to the Manas & not the attire we wear. The body itself is a dress. Inside we are same. The one inside doesn’t change

So no worries grand dress or simple dress don’t make any change to our mind. This is adiyen’s opinion.

There is one more important reason we should avoid taking a confrontational approach with parents and elders in the family. They are our genuine well-wishers. Whatever they say is out of their concern for our present and our future. Their priorities may be different – i.e. they may give more importance to our ‘comfortable’, ‘successful’ life instead of spiritually progressive life. That is because they themselves may not have had the kind of opportunities we now have to hear upanyasams when they were younger. It is because of their hard work and sacrifice we have the stability in life today to direct our mind towards the actual goal of life.

So, out of gratitude for their love and sacrifice, we should avoid taking an argumentative approach towards them. On small matters we can make a compromise; on more important matters we can try and explain to them gently instead of arguing. (Pray to acharyan and Perumal before trying to explain to them; they will definitely understand). Over time, it will be easier for them also to take to some of the devotional practises you are applying yourself now.

Adiyen listened to Sri Jana Bhai’s story in youtube who came away from parents to be in eternal service of lord Panduranga.

She ended up in nAma Devar’s house 🏠 from the temple where her biological parents left her half heartedly.

Ironically Vittala Panduranga’s avathAram itself happened to denote service to biological parents of Bhaktha Pundalik.

Adiyen know this may lead to BhAgavatha ApachAram yet cannot resist the thought.

Can’t jAnA bhAi continue her Bhakthi in her own home itself?
Meera Bhai did that. Why can’t JAnA bhAi?

Is Bhakthi running away from home?

Vittala is vichitram so his Bhakthi.
Cannot comprehend
