Srimathe Ramanujaya namaha
Appan thiruvadigale saranam

Swami kindly clear my dharmasandeha.
Nowadays dairy has become big industry where cattle are harmed to maximum extent to extract more and more milk even at the cost of their life.should we consume dairy products?
Velukkudi Krishnan swami told in Kaliyuga Mahabharatham day 1 Upanyasam “Ahimsa paramo dharmaha”
Another point is if all atmas are equal why we should harm such animals who can’t express themselves. It was also told cow’s milk is for calf and not humans.
As I could not post this question directly at KKT site due to technical problem I’m addressing this to you to know and follow correct dharma.

Namaskaram swamy
We can consume dairy products. Milk is not only for calf . Shastras are saying that we can consume the remaining milk of cow when the calf’s stomach is filled. Milk is a suddha satvika product. Even krishna loves dairy products. If milk is not for humans, why did our acharyas drank? Why do our acharyas classified milk as a satvika product? Why did our acharyas used it for thiruvaradhanam? We can consume milk.

But adiyen don’t know about industry. Yes, they are torturing cows for milk. Let us wait and see for more replies .

Srimate Ramanujaye Namaha!

Swamy, nice to see your care and concern for cows, without being selfish.. we need many more such people who have time to think and care about cows..

As per saastra, cow’s milk is considered an important ingredient for vedic sacrifices, directly and indirectly as ghee.. Subsequently, humans can partake as prassadam which will help refine brain tissues to absorb vedic message and grow spiritually.

please hear the 13th minute in this video, where swami clarifies this..

https://youtu.be/gBb0xXM2DSY

However, milk should be drawn from cow after feeding the calf, the excess alone can be taken , also with care and concern. That is not happening now in commercial industry where they are milked by machines without feeding calves and then at old age being sent to slaughter house. This is predicted in Srimad Bhagavatam as a characteristic of Kali yuga.

https://vedabase.io/en/library/sb/1/17/3/

Swami, explains one possible solution is to approach the local cow farm in villages where they do treat the cows well and collect milk from there.

Another option is if many of us who are like minded, may want to open a cow farm in our local communities, jointly supervised by us with care and concern and respect for cows then that can also help.

My humble thanks to replies from two knowledgeable swamis. The main point here is outright exploitation without any Jeevakarunyam
happening in all dairies. No love or freedom for
Cows buffalos and calves. In urban living there is less alternatives except forgoing dairy products.

Swami, appreciate your feelings for cows.

I think Lord Krishna is  creating awareness of these situations and practices to us, so as to inspire us to do some positive kainkaryam like setting up local  Goshalas. In slightly outskirt areas of urban cities it is possible to set up small Goshalas ourselves. If we have atleast 2/3 volunteers to help manage and supervise with at least 1 helper employed.. if we pray, by Lord’s grace  it may happen.

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Namaskaram Swami’s,

Some detailed conversations with Pramaanam references available in this thread regarding exploitation of animals and what will happen to them as per shastras.

Regarding the aftermath of the type of cow’s milk consumption in Kali yuga, Adiyen will post it separately in this thread later.

Yes, it’s true that companies see Gaumata as just money making machine. They are extremely mistreated. This is wrong.

One have main 3 options –

1. Try Ahimsa milk

In simple, this is same milk where local milkman give raw unpasteurised milk from cows having hump from can to door to door.

2. Giving up milk

I don’t recommend. Because unpasteurised milk, Ghee is the basis of original Vedas. Unpasteurised Milk or Ghee or its products are the basis of Ayurveda. If you give up milk, at least have Ghee, please.

3. You decide

Even plants have Atma

So should we stop eating rice, wheat? Isn’t we kill them and have them as food? Should we stop using internet because sparrow’s and birds are dieing due to radiation?

Ahimsa concept is limited and not practical. Try best, that’s it. Lord Sri Krishna would never had made Mahabharata Kurkshetra war if he truly endorses Ahimsa.

Best option – if you have own land, get 1-2 Gaumata and live the best life possible like Gopa and Gopies

Also when you offer bhog to Sri Radhakrishna of milk and it’s products, the cow which gave that milk get it’s credits and get better life next life. Also the who consume that Prasadam will get no Karma

Thanks a lot for your response.Do plants have atma?I’ve heard they too have life. But our ancestors have made a decision to use forms with lower life and hence lesser
harms/cruelty to lives.Everyone of us know what is happening to cows in dairy.A cow which can live for 15 years is tortured for higher yield of milk reducing its life span to less than 5years.Not only that ,they are reproduced at such high rate for continuous commercial exploitation. This is nothing short of atrocities on generations of cows which we used to adore as Mahalakshmi and Vedas refer as Mahavishnu

.We refuse to have a real look at the problem as we are comfortable in consuming all dairy products generations together giving some lame excuses like after the calf has its milk remaining portion we take to reduce pains to cows.Even during Periyavachan pillai’s time he has stated hay stuffed calf was shown to mother cow to extract the milk.
So the so called sattvic products of yesteryears are no more Satvic coming from modern dairy because of the way in which they are produced.Even during Mahatma Gandhi’s days he stopped taking cow’s milk after hearing
the atrocities committed on cows in dairies.Because more and more people continue to consume dairy products the dairy industry is supported by all of us which in turn kills more and more cows.Gosamrakshana is done in a small scale when cows are no more profitable and sent to slaughter house.
The solution for this can be small goshalas where they are treated kindly and have some freedom. Its possible to start some units like this in Divyadesams which I think KKT is already doing.
I request allof you to bear with me for lack of knowledge
and I don’t mean to hurt anyone by my words.க்ஷமிக்க

Krishnan swamy, namaskaram. Yes, you are correct. The solution you have provided is indeed the correct one, and there are several genuinely goshalas these days (including the KKT goshalas), and the least we can do is to support these goshalas to the best of our available resources.

Correction : The above test should have been 2nd hour, so it 1:38 to 1:42.

Also towards the end (around  1:50) of the upanyasam swamy explains how a community of 100 families can maintain a small Goshala.

Srimate Ramanujaye Namaha!

In this thread we did discuss how we should help Goshalas. Swami also explained that we should help nearby Goshalas.

I am trying to see if we can post all genuine goshala links here, so that it will reach to atleast our forum members which is at least 1700+. Atleast during every dwadasi (today is dwadasi :)-, if we are not able to directly feed the cows we can make donations to these goshalas..

I am listing few, Other Bhagavathas please add on to this list.

  1. https://www.kinchit.org/goshala/.

But for donation to goshala which is the link.. is it this one?https://velukkudi.in/

2.  https://periyanambi.com/donate/

3.https://gosala.vedics.org/        (Goshala in Srirangam but website based in US)

4.https://anudinamgoshala.org/

5.https://gosala.chinnajeeyar.org/

6. Aaandavan Ashram ( the website seems to have some issue..somebody can provide the link)

7.https://govardhanagiritrust.webs.com/ udipi mutt

I think besides the above well known mutts.. there are 2 more , but need to be verified and assessed accordingly.(if anybody is aware of them please update)

https://saveindiancows.org/donate-surabhivana/

https://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-tamilnadu/a-shelter-for-stray-cows/article3322367.ece

Apart from these if you know of genuine goshalas being maintained please post here for the benefit of Bhagavatas and as well as for the goshalas.

Namaskaram swamis!

I just now read all the above posts. But I myself have certain doubts regarding this.

Now, I am going to put forth certain points given by certain animal activists, which might even be offensive. But I consider this as an opportunity to learn more, and correct ourselves if there are any mistakes on our parts.

1.  The cows are injected with 5 mL of oxytocin twice everyday. There is also a process called artificial insemination which is a very torturing process to breed cows.

2. The male calves are abandoned at an early age and sent straight to slaughter. Even the female cows are later sent to slaughter. (This is also done in the villages)

3. Although we in this forum are suggesting various ways for an ethical way to milk cows and protect them, the animal activists say that it is impractical, and say that the only practical way to protect cows is to totally abandon dairy products.

(The above point is a quite strong one from them)

4. They say that the cow’s nose is pierced and thus it’s also cruel. The below image will explain this.

Cow Tied Images, Stock Photos & Vectors | Shutterstock

5. Lastly, they also seem to be against Goshalas, as they believe that the conditions are unhygienic and also the cows are starved.

(P.S.: The above points are not my views, but they are of various animal activists’)

These points make me very much worried and guilty whenever I consume dairy products.

Please forgive if my post is offensive/sensitive.

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Asmadh Sarva Gurubyo Namaha,

Namaskaram Swami’s,

Yes that is correct, IN KALI YUGA “MILK” is one of the five prohibited items which causes health issues which inturn makes one to suffer that leads one to fall on ONE COMMON Almighty GOD lotus feet as “Oh GOD, Please Help me” and then the improvement on Bhakthi happens later due to suffering.

So suffering is one of the method (KALI’s Service to BhagavAn) to attain to regain “MAHA VISHWASAM” on BhagavAn’s lotus feet applicable only to those people who doesn’t want to follow the straight method of following shastras (their excuse is by saying shastras are strict, but in actual shastras are very simple and easy to follow, but they say it is strict without trying. Eventually what happens is, such people suffer in their health as grossly seen).

Coming back to milk, in Old Yugas Milk is Pure and we take only the remaining milk after its calf consumption.

In this Yuga “Milk is poison” ONLY if the source is not known. Here are details.

With Acharya ThiruvAdi Bhalam and Velukkudi Sri Krishnan Swami’s Aasirvadham, the related Enpani is #423 “can we be vegan and follow sampradhayam”,

Swami’s above Enpani is applicable only if can get a milk which is pure from cow directly (not adulterated milk). If not, don’t buy milk, since it harmful for body and easy path to cancer and other known diseses. In olden days and some places presently, we got such Pure direct milk, but in kaliyuga, it’s not the case. It’s mostly adulterated with harmful chemicals, so inorder to help True devotees Perumal is propelling this Vegan movement in Sooksham, though the vegan movement is to bring back their religious followers to follow their scriptures “Thou shalt not to kill

Nowadays the Food Safety Officers are catching such misproperly prepared milk.

In Kaliyuga dharmam Upanyasam, Swami says a slokam which says that the basic foods that we need will be adulterated, and MILK is one among them.

Here is the what the adulteration done in some milk companies which caught in the past, adiyen believe.

1) After milk is obtained from dairy farms, the milk company inorder to increase the milk quantity,  add water to it, which inturn reduces the milks natural protein. So to bring the milks viscosity back like thicker, “melamine” chemical is added, which makes it appear like thick milk. This is harmful for health,
2) To increase the density, “urea” is added beyond the approved proportional level. Urea itself is not good for agriculture பயிறு, but it is added for our வயிறு,
3) To increase lather in milk, “caustic soda” is added, which is a detergent for soap and cloth washing and toilet cleaning,
4) To prevent decay of milk inorder to keep it fresh for longer days without foul smell, “Formalin” is added, which is a chemical used to preserve dead bodies for some period without foul smell.

Overall the milk that is obtained is not milk, it is poison.

We know that all the advertisements that we see in TV is business orientated, so if we see advertisements about drink Milk in TV, then the first thing that should click in our mind that “something is wrong”, since TV is KALI’s area.

It is true that, in spiritualism, we are suppose to use milk and milk products, but if the source of milk is not geninue, then we have to avoid milk and not to be adamant about it, since our health will spoil very fast and end up in hospital paying huge bills for something where the root cause of the issue is not fixed.

So Swami’s Enpani #423 about milk is needed, but in large extent the source of milk is not genuine, so BhagavAn propells the Vegan concept to help us to avoid milk products. So it is a give and take depending upon ones personal decision.

Secondly, BhagavAn says in shastras, not to have caffeine like drink coffee or tea, but most devotees or gurus don’t follow these. Coffee Tea is not good for health and leads to cancer. Adiyen can explain it how in a later time. Anyway, when these devotees add these adulterated milk to the caffeine coffee tea, body worsening is doubled.

So where is the opportunity for devotees to do BhagavAn service when their body itself is not in good condition. Only influencial gurus like Velukkudi Swami can bring awareness by propogating these hidden truth to devotees via audios, so they can recover and be in correct path as:

  1. DONT DRINK MILK IF SOURCE IS NOT KNOWN.
  2. DON’T DRINK CAFFEINE PRODUCT’S,

That’s true Bhagavata. “Vegan” doent allow using any milk products. The pure reason whether say no milk products is because, in the past and present the BUSINESS MINDED humans are so much torturing cows in India and in foregin countries like hybrid cows, more milk production by injection that how much cow would normally produce etc…..and merciless killibg baby cows. Here us a awareness on a website showing how Nestle makes product by torturing cows and baby calf.

https://www.kinderworld.org/videos/dairy-industry/cows-tortured-nestle-dairy-products/

So who sets the “DEMAND” for such business minded people, we “ORDINARY HUMANS” are responsible for making the business minded people make more sin. How?. Everyday moring. People in lower class or middle class or upper class wanted to drink “COFFEE OR TEA” with Milk added to satisfy their tongue ?. Then after Ekadasi, we give agatthi keerai to the same cow whom we tortured and drank the Shastric prohibited coffee. What a pathetic situation.

So when DEMAND increases the “SUPPLY” will increase. So the Vegan revolution intention is to reduce the demand, so the supply will reduce. When supply is reduced, the torture on cows/goats to produce excessive milk reduces, which in turn will allow the cows/goats to live their normal life. The mother cows can feed their baby and the excessive remaining milk can be given to humans for consumption.

Same thing, people demand for non vegeterian, so the increase the supply, animals are tortured and “ANIMAL AGRICULTURE” happens like cows are with synthetic growth hormones or antibiotics. Patsture treated with synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers; produced with GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms).

So WE People in lower class or middle class or upper class are responsible for irresponsible behaviour by demanding something that us against GOD’s WILL, which makes the business minded people to make more supply and they start commiting additional sins.

Nowadays every part of EACH country are bringing this awarness on animals. There are organic natural farms in India and outside India, where they let cows graze on the bare land, and allow it to produce natural milk after it is distributed for humans consumption after baby calf is satisfied ?.

These some explained of positive trend change and not limited to these links.

Organic Cow s ? in USA
https://www.auroraorganic.com

Most cities in USA are afoptibg plant based diet as below:
https://chooseveg.com/blog/best-us-cities-vegan-options/

***************************
Which is what adiyen mentioned in initial thread above with Acharya Krupai and Swami’s Raul.

ThiruvAlluaAr says,

நீ புலாலை மறுத்தால், கொல்லும் தொழிலை செயபவன் அதை மறுத்து விடுவான்.

(இறைவன் அவனுக்கு வேற தொழிலை குடுப்பான்)

[If one denies eating meat and use milk to drink the prohibited Cofee 5~6 times a day, the persons who does the Butcher business /Cofee business will Stop Killing and Selling meat and stop Animal agriculture to produce excessive milk, then “Iraivan (BhagavAN /SUPREME GOD) will provide him another JOB“, Which is what Thiruvallyvar holy words to be adopted in practical world.]

So the General Public has the responsibility to follow good things and avoid bad things. As long as the General public does wrong things, the Wrong thing Sellers will exist.

Namaskaram ElayaAlwar swami,

Yes, as you have mentioned veganism might be one of the solutions to put an end to the sufferings of the cows. But, for the vegetarians, milk and its products are the only source of B12 vitamin in our body. Also, vegans don’t consume honey even.

Rather vegans adopt an artificial method of consuming B12 vitamin tablets, which is artificial.

Although vegans abstain from animal products, they also seem to criticize vegetarians even, rather than encouraging them to protect cows.

One of the vegans even said that  “If you are still consuming milk, even after knowing about the torture of the cows, then please start eating the flesh of cow”. This statement will definitely not encourage the vegetarians.

Now as you said I heard Enpani #423.

Additionally, in the below video Sri Velukkudi swami says not to abandon cow’s milk around 12-13th minute:

https://youtu.be/gBb0xXM2DSY

Also, at the same time I am not against the vegans’ views on torture of the animals. I myself am concerned about all these atrocities committed on animals. But, whenever I consume milk products, I am in a dilemma as Swami said not to abandon milk in the video, and at the same time it is adharma to torture the cows for milk like this.

Now, as per my understanding I have posted all of these swami. Thus, I humbly request a reply to this post.

Adiyen.

on October 27, 2020

Srimate Ramanujaye Namaha,

Yes true. Swami has said not to abandon milk. But he suggests to find a local cow farm and collect from there.

  • If we look around and be prayerful we will find one nearby. That is the best solution.
  • Else we can discuss with any local neighbors if they have experience of taking care of cows and are willing to do so.
  • If both options dont work, either we have to take the risk of  adulterated milk or take the risk of deficient diet.. This option is a personal choice , but will perhaps make us more motivated to use our energy in service and to surrender to Krishna.  ( In case of option 3 , we can research on different brands and if we get some insight on which is least adulterated, we can try that until above 2 solutions are implemented)

In future we should set up more such natural cow farms so as to serve the society.
