Reasons for suffering and happiness

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

Even an accused knows for what he gets punishment. A businessman knows what efforts reaped the profits.

Why karmA is so subtle and encapsulated?
If a person knows why he is suffering he won’t repeat the mistakes again right?

Is this cause and effect relationship properly justified?

Hare Krishna! Namaskaram Swami.

The definition of pain/pleasure has a bearing on the outcome it creates. Sri Velukkudi Swami refers a typical example in discourses, a mother undergoes labor pain only to go through long lasting pleasure of becoming/being a mother to a kid so it is no longer looked at as ‘pain’ post delivery.

Bg 2.14 — O son of Kuntī, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed.

Bg 2.15 — O best among men [Arjuna], the person who is not disturbed by happiness and distress and is steady in both is certainly eligible for liberation.

Sri:
Adiyen is fine with future outcomes. The question is “do we know the reason for current suffering/pleasure”? If not, why we need not know?

Only some mahAns know our past, present & future. Should jeevAthma know or need not know. By knowing will it cause more suffering?

Whenever somebody is in pain, the other person easily states “it’s your karmA”. Well if so, should the person need not know for what karmA he is suffering?

Let’s say if it’s a bhAgavatha apachAram, won’t it be useful for the person to ask SORRY to same bhAgavathA?

Namaskarams to all,

Yes. Thanks for sharing. As Swamy says, if we remember everything, life itself will become hell. It is good that we don’t remember these.

To certain extent (not for each and every pain), we can know from Garuda Puranam, the equivalent diseases and births for various papa karmas. A must read Puranam.

Namaskaram

I have also had the same doubt if we should know or remember the exact cause for our suffering.

I heard from a saintly person who explained that , if we are explained that we did some particular action say x in last life which is the cause for present suffering , then we will question (not all some of us)  why it happened so , then we will have to go back to 2 more previous lives to find out what made us to come to such situation in last life.. it will go on like this until we were originally  in Vaikunata. But as baddatmas don’t want to remember their original position in Vaikunata that is why we are here ..then trying to recollect all the past lives is a contradictory desire..

Also i vaguely remember from hearing Vellukkudi Swami s upanyasam, where swami explains that it is more important to work on removing the effect of negative karma than trying to understand the basic specific cause.. for some we cannot find. i think it is in the discourse.. why good things happen to bad people?

I am not very sure but at some point in this lecture Swami emphasizes not to worry too much about the specific cause.

Hare Krishna! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Bg 15.15 — I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas, I am to be known. Indeed, I am the compiler of Vedānta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.
