Mukthi is not ultimate

Srimate Ramanujaya Namah! Sri Ranga Narayana Jeeyar Swamigale Saranam!

Dear Velukkudi Swami,

After getting your darshan in Portland, OR in 2012, Lord showered me his blessings and I started my spiritual journey. Last year I got initiated by HH Sri Ranganarayana Jeeyar in Srirangam. I am an ardent follower of your upanyasams and consider you as one of my Siksha Gurus. I have been also closely associated with Gaudiya Vaishnavas (ISKCON) here as they were also a good part of my transformation. I have come across various places that our Alwars and Acharayaas have repeatedly asked for Kaimkarayam however they have also prayed for Mukthi. Other bonafide Vaishnava sects like Gaudiya Vaishnavas claim that Mukthi is something they never ask Bhagavan. They refer to their Acharayas poems such as Atma Nivedana Song by Bhakti Vinoda Thakur, which states “kīṭa-janma hau jathā tuwā dās bahir-mukha brahma janme nāhi āś” translated as “May I be born again even as a worm, so long as I may remain Your devotee. I have no desire to be born as a Brahma averse to You.” and in Chaitanya Charitamrita in Madya Lila Chapter 6.263 (Please read 6.262 also) Saravabuma Bhattacharya changes the Srimad Bhagavatham verse 10.14.8 from Mukti Pada to Bhakti Pada. However, Chaintaya Mahaprabhu doesn’t accept it. There are many other instances that they can quote on how Bhakti is important than Mukti. What would be the correct understanding and a good response to this statement?

Adiyen,

Badrinarayana Ramanuja Dasan!

ANega KoTi NamaskArangal Swami,

Thank you for taking time and answering this adiyen’s question so fast. I heard your enpani topic 979.”Good Better Best”. There couldn’t be any better answer than this. Now I feel so energized and can spread our alwaars and acharyaas messages with even more vigour.

Adiyen,

Badrinarayana Ramanuja Dasan!

Sri Ramanuja Munaye Namaha,
Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami Guruve Namaha,

Dear Ramanuja Dasa,

There is a story in GuruParamparai from Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami’s Pravachanams.

Acharya Swami Thirumalai ANathAazhvaan PIllai (a direct Shisyar of SWami Ramanujar), who was responsbile for making the THirumalai forest as PUshpa THottam (BrindhavAn) as a Acharya Ramanujar Kainkaryam made some statements during SWami’s return to SriVaikuntam (Mukthi), which should be remembered by followers of Swami Ramanujar.

Swami ANathAzhvaan PIllai relationship to Ramanujar is like Shatruknan’s relationship to BHaratAzhvaan in Srimad Ramanyana, and Madhurakavi ALwars realtionship to SWami NamALwar.

1) BharatAzhvaan (brother) of SriRama was a direct devotee of BHagavAn SriRama, but BHarat Azhvaan sufferred for 14 years due to SriRama’s ANugraham received late after 14 years. But SHatrugnan was a Pure devotee of BHarath Azhvaan and NOT a direct devotee of BHagavAn SriRama, so He got the name SHatrugnan (SriRama BHakthi yengira SHatruvai Vendradhaal “SHatrugnan“). SHatrugnan was always heappy because, he did ONLY Kainkaryam to the Devotee (BHarthAzhvaan) of BHagavan, and NOT to BHagavAN directly. So adiyaarkku adiyaar is benefitted Mukthi first.

2) Same situation with Swami NamALwar being direct devotee of SriKRIshna, had to go though long THavippu to get Moksham (Mukthi). Perumal was dragging SWami NamALwar MUkthi by making SWami sing 1000 paasurams (though it was for us to cherish), but MadhuraKavi Alwar being a devotee of NamALwar reached SriVAikuntam (Mukthi) earlier than SWami NamALwar by singing only 10 passurams ‘Kannunin SiriTHaambhu’. So adiyaarkku adiyaar is benefitted Mukthi first.

3) Swami THirumalai AnathAzhvaan Pillai was like Shatrugnan or MAdhurakavi ALwar, instead of direct devotee of THirumalai PErumal, Swami was a devotee of ONLY Swami Ramanujar who inturn is a pure devotee of Sriman Narayana (SriKRishna). SWami Ramanujar is like BHarat Azhvaan or SWami NamALwar. AnanthAzhvaan SWami makes Garland and hands over to Perumal Sannidhi, but nevers prays Sriman Narayana directly, since SWami was a hardened devotee of SWami Ramanujar (Adiyarkku Adiyaar).

So, Adiyarkku Adiyaarkku Adiyaarukku Adiyaar…..is Swami Ramanuja Sampradhayam.
This is called a CHaramaavathi Dasan (Dasan to Last to last to last to end of last adiyar).

The point in GuruParamparai is, at one time THirumalai AnanthAzhvaan PIllai was so happy with the Acharya Ramanuja Kainkaryam in THirupathi, by doing Pushpa Kainkaryam, SWami started thinking that the Kainkaryam is So GOOD here in Samsaram. But one day, Swami got “PARALYSIS DIsease” suddenly, though Swami was very Healthy till last day. When other Shisyas asked about it, SWami said, “Inroder to change adiyen’s thinking that “Samsaram is Good to do continous Kainkaryam”, SriKrishna made “PARALYSIS DIsease” to adiyen, so that adiyen could STOP doing Kainkaryam in this Samsaram and reach adyens Acharya Ramanuja THiruvAdi (SriVaikuntam/Mukthi) in this same Janma.

So, it depends upn on SriKRishna BHagavAN, how HE wants to take HIS BHaktas to SRiVaikuntam (Mukthi), since Samsaram is Goram according to SRiKRIshna.

ALwar says, “SRIVAIKUNTAM PUGUVADHU MANNAVAR VIDHIYE”

From a pure devotee’s perspective, one can think, we need to take different bodies to do Kainkaryam, but from BhagavAn SriKRishna’s perspective, BhagavAN will take HIS pure devotee to SriVaikuntam (MUkthi) in that same birth, since we ALL in this ENpani though from different sampradhayas (40,000 plus members) are a Sharanagathan to Swami Ramanujar ‘s last Sambhandhi, like Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami THiruvadigalaey Sharanam. Edhai yella Ramanuja Dasargalum Ninaivil Kolga.

Adiyen Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Dasan,
Uyya Oraey VAzhi UdayavAR THiruvAdi,

Ranu CHod Rai SriKrishna BHagavAN ki Jai,

Sarvam Sri KRishna KUdumbham,
Sarvam SriKrishnarpanam Asthu

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

Adiyen didn’t listen to the answer but will do now. The feeling adiyen have is “kulasekhara pAdi (stepping stone)” kulasekhara Azhwar has sung padiyAi kidanthu un pavazha vaai kANbenEy, or meenai pirappeney. So it’s nothing new from North Indian’s view.

The end result of bhakthi is mukthi. The mukthi is nothing but the complete experience. As long as one is.submerged in that experience like Hanuman or Kulasekhara Azhwar mukhthi can happen later that’s what they might have meant.
