Before sri Krishnar’s avataram, 7 children died mercilessly, why devaki and vasudevar deliberately had 8 children and led to die in hands of kamsa?From Sheshadri

Devaki and Vasudevar had performed immense penance (in previous life time) to beget the Lord as their son. Now they have heard that Lord will be born, it is their duty to beget the children to bring forth Lord to this world. Only 6 children died; the 7th child was transfered to Rohini’s womb. 

From Why

It was her service to the Lord, so that all the demons will voluntarily come to meet Him and get killed. One of the purposes of His appearance is to destroy the demons.

More questions:

Why did the ‘asariri’ reveal the secret of Krishna’s appearance to Kamsa?

Ans: in order to facilitate Lord’s plan to destroy the demons as He has promised to His devotees headed by Brahma; and also to enhance His leela.

Why did Kamsa put Devaki and Vasudeva is the same jail knowing well that their 8th son is going to kill him.

Kamsa thought ‘let them beget the child soon so that I can kill it as a child itself and thus escape my fate’. That didn’t happen! 

Secondly, even a demoniac person like Kamsa had the knowledge that intercourse is not the only way to beget children. There were other ways which are beyond our understanding. For example, the 7th child was transferred from Devaki’s womb to Rohini’s womb; this was not by ceasarean followed by some kind of surgery mediated implantation in to the surrogate mother. They had other means to do so; another example is, Vyasa was able to take one aborted feotus and culture that into 100 children.

Atleast when we hear such descriptions, we can develop some level of humility. But we are in a generation where people who did not even clear middle school become known as scholar of Tamil and yet dare to question ‘in which engineering college Lord Rama studied to construct the sethu?’  

We adults devote so much time an energy hearing about such people and not spend even a few minutes everyday to hear from our acharyas. As a result we remain ignorant; to cover up our ignorance we glorify our younger generation who are even more ignorant and proud in their questions.

To continue one’s service as a preacher with indefatigable spirit at such difficult times is commendable.

Swami for the 1st question i have heard 2 perspectives 

1. The seven children born before the Lord had some Karma to be cleared
2. Secondly, such impiety made Kamsa’s end closer, dragged him quickly.. (Infact Narada Muni induces Kamsa to act so)

Regarding the second question

By revealing the secret to Kamsa, Kamsa was always in fear and already lost the battle half way.

Secondly by revealing the secret, demons were sent one by one and Krishna was able to finish them off.

There may be many more perspectives and reasons for these events.

Thirukachidaasanudasan

In Harivaṃśapurāṇa (2nd chapter of the Visnu-parva) it is written that Hamsa, Suvikrama, Kratha, Damana, Ripu-mardana, and Krodha-hanta, who are known as the sad-garbha (six unborn children), are the sons of the demon Kalanemi.

They performed intense austerities to worship the universal grandsire Brahma, unbeknown to their own grandfather Hiranyakasipu. Being satisfied with their extreme penances, Brahma granted them the boon of protection from death according to their prayers. Later, when Hiranyakasipu heard about this incident, he became enraged and said, “You have worshipped Brahma without letting me know, thus I have no affection for impudent people such as you. Your father himself will kill all of you. In your next life, all six of you will take birth in the womb of Devaki and your father Kalanemi will be born as Kamsa. That very Kamsa will be your murderer.” Due to this curse of Hiranyakasipu, they took birth in the womb of Devaki and were killed by Kamsa, the incarnation of Kalanemi.

Prior to this, they were well known by the names Smara, Udgītha, Pariṣvaṅga, Pataṅga, Kṣudrabhṛt and Ghṛṇī and were the sons of Marici Muni. They laughed after seeing Brahma unite with his own daughter Sarasvatī. Due to this offense, they had to take birth as demons.

In the Srimad Bhagavata (10.85.47-57) it is mentioned that due to the prayer of Mother Devaki, Sri Balarama and Sri Krsna brought back her six dead sons.
