What is Kaamya karma

Updated on July 30, 2019 in Karma

Swami,

How do we understand if something is a kaamya karma?

e.g., vedam has prescribed different types of somayagams for certain benefits. While some of them are for personal/individual benefits, some of them are meant for the benefits of entire humanity, atmosphere, etc.

If personal/individual benefit seeking karmas have to be discouraged to attain moksham, what about those karmas prescribed for the benefit of the entire humanity/country (e.g., parjanya yajnam, athirathra mahayajnam, etc.)?

Also in our daily household life, we do homams for personal benefits during gruhaprahavesam, marriage, sudarshana homam, etc. Wouldn’t that mean these practices meant for individual/family benefits be also discouraged?

To that extent could we say even praying to bhagawan asking for some personal benefits (like begetting a son, removing obstacles, etc.) is not correct?

Request please shed some light on our ignorance.

-Adiyen

Adiyen Srinivasa Dasan.

A small story recited by swami comes to adiyens’s mind.

A great jeeyar swami in srirangam (couldnt remember the name) once conceived sudarshana shathakam to give good health. But koorathazhwan opined that it is kaamyam and is not recommended. However, the jeeyar swami accepted it and thought there may be a time when it is useful. An araiyar swami fell sick and got cured by recitation of sudrashana shathakam by th ejeeyar swami. The jeeyar swami humbly asked koorathazhwan that this was used only for kainkaryam, hence is it good. The reply from koorathazhwan was “bhagavan will take care if he needs kainkaryam from that jeevatma”. Still it is not recommended.

That was the nishtai of koorathazhwan.

There are many anecdotes in koorathazhwan life history like he was hesitant to ask for marriage of his sons (ishwara prakruthikku kavalai paduvaar naam yaar), he refrained from asking his own eyes to Varadaraja perumal.

However, there is also an opinion that if we are fully brahma gyanis and consider this shareeram as bhagavan’s shareeram then we can take care of it. However, it is highly diffiult to attain such state of mind.

Hope this clarifies devareer’s doubts.

Vaachaka dishathai kshamikka praarthikkiren.

Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy Thiruvadigaley Sharanam

Excellent tricky question and equally good answer Swamins.

Such interesting questions make the forum more interesting.

“The jeeyar swami humbly asked koorathazhwan that this was used only for kainkaryam, hence is it good. The reply from koorathazhwan was “bhagavan will take care if he needs kainkaryam from that jeevatma”

This adiyen listened yesterday or day before in SVBC2 from Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy.

Let us remember Karna withstood the bee ? bite vandu kadi while Parashurama questioned about his Brahminical nature.

Withstanding pain is not Brahmin’s cup of tea. Morattu bhakthi is not demanded by Vishnu at any cost.

Swamy KoorathAzhwan may be siddha Purushan. So Swamy bore the pain in the eye burn. Swamy could read Brahma Sutram in one night at one go. Swamy said “yAm pettra vAzhvu nAloorAnum peruga”

If it was me adiyen would have scolded that fellow who was the reason to my current state. Exceptions are NOT examples.

Can we do? Of course not.

Krishna Premi Anna Swamy used to say at the end of namakam, chamakam or rudram we ask for “Yagnyo yagnena kalpathAm” (just did phonetical transliteration).

Meaning I ask for all these wellfare to do the yagnya. I do the yagnya to do the yagnyam. Yagyathukkagava yagyam pandren.

It’s a dharma kAryam.

Krishna Premi Anna used to say ” We say kAmyam is inferior but the one who actually needs will know the value of it”

Adhavadhu kashta padravalukku dhan kAmyArtha bhakthi arumai theriyum. kAmyArtha bhakthi inferior nu pesarthukku nanna irukkum but time vandha Yara irundhaalum keppA.

Comparing to Moksham everything else will feel inferior but in reality in this material world we have to come over regular obstacles to do kainkaryam.

Example if adiyen is employed only adiyen can contribute to Kinchit. Illati epadi dhana Dharmam Panna mudiyum?

While having kurai and singing “kurai ondrum illai” to Perumal is like hiding something and Singing something else.

We have to be honest when it comes to GOD.

Sri Ramanuja Munaye Namaha,

Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami Guruve Namaha,

Dear All BhagavAtas,

Beautiful satsangam referring to Swami’s Pravachanams,

Swami in “Varadarajar100” EP1 @18 minutes concludes, summarizes BhagavAtas conversations about “Kaamya karma” with Swami Koirthazhvaan’s Anugraham as”

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8YgY6vzfFVIxYJSmpi3-QLRDfkmQtSgN

So Swami with KARUNAI says we can ask kaamya karma provided we also ask the PRIMARY  knowledge to make us remember that we are always sotthu (property) of BhagavAn VaradaRaja Perumal.

****************************

As Swami always, we need to use a Uvamaanam (Materialistic Reference) to explain the Uvameyam (Divine Object/Subject to be known).

So for Jolly, Uvamaanam (from Agni Nakshathiram) about Uvameyam (Rajaj/Perumal)

https://youtu.be/2CYWWDLWv04

(Perumal)
(King of all Devas and for everyone)
(Kaamyam)
(Don’t go anywhere else begging for Kaamyam, go again to Perumal)

(Not just today or 40 yrs before or previous Yuga or in the past, I’M  still the ONLY King (Raja) at all times and ages”).

அப்பவும் நான் ராஜா (even when I’m buried under water or soil without any sanctum, no Archanai etc… still ‘I’M the ONLY KING (Raja)).

So, PERUMAL WILL GIVE BOTH KAAMYAM AND MOKSHSM THROUGH ACHARYA THIRUVADI, so don’t go anywhere else. So ask both to Perumal.

***********************

In present situation during our life period, Our “Raja (Mudhalaali)  is our Sri Velukkudi Swami.

Another Uvamaanam from “Nallavanukku Nallavan” for Uvameyam (Swami),

……….Our Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami…,????

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha
Srimathe SriVarAha MahAdEsikAya Namaha
Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy Thiruvadigaley Sharanam

Swamy,
Correct adiyen. Beautiful sathsangam. Also Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy is great. During initial days adiyen never thought Swamy will answer our simple questions as they always talk only big things in vidwat sadas.

Coming down to us from their nature itself is a BIG KRUPAI on us. Indha Kali yugathula Ippadi kuda irukka mudiyum nu nam Swamy dhan namakku vazhi kaatti.

‘When many big people talk about differences our Swamy talks and does things to unite us’. Everyone is common to Perumal so difference doesn’t matter to him.

Why Velukkudi Krishnan Swamy is Genius because let’s take this EnPaNi 1454 What is Yoga? Adiyen have heard only partial answers before from others. Today talking about Patanjali Maharishi is a trend. We have commodities named after him the one who talked about discarding commodities.

Only our Swamy gave an overall perspective. Who talks about HiranyaGarbha Swamy today? Who knows that Swamy in first place? Also before yamam, niyamam there is a step. After SamAdhi there is a step Kaivalyam. I am sure people talk only from yamam till samAdhi.

Whether we accept SAnkhya Dharshana.or not we need to acknowledge such a matham.

In fact Azhwar has sung SAnkhyam Katrom, Samanam Katrom, Bouddham katrom. Today’s religions were never even considered those days Christianity or Muslim.

“Thou shall not kill” is okay but it cannot be compared with aNadi kAla Vedam. They talk similar to our context doesn’t mean they are equal.to vedic practitioners (I shall refrain calling Veda a religion). Veda doesn’t promote any God directly. It talks everything and the onus of identifying which God is better is left to us. That’s why it is called as “Marai Porul” in thamizh. When we talk such terms then we may need to compromise on Vedic practices. That’s how buddhiam started.

Thanks, Chowkhidhar Swami.

May adiyen interpret your views as kaamya karmam is not incorrect provided we don’t own the karma  and understand that bhagawan and acharyan are our supreme masters.

Velukkudi Swami has also several times clarified us that “vedam sonna karmathai vittuttu moksham kidaiyadhu (while explaining Charama Shlokam)”. But we must continue to do them with kartrutva, mamata, and phala tyagam.

In that case, how the vedic karmas such as agnishtomas, somayagams, haviryagnams, etc., have almost become hypothetical today?

We know even our own Jagatacharyar Udayavar’s father was a Somayaji (meaning somebody who is an exponent in performing somayagams) belonging to the same yugam (kali) where we are also present, but how come these practices have reduced to just legendary folklore stories for us now?

Is it due to the decrease in shraddhai from generation to generation (e.g., adiyen doesn’t have the shraddhai as much as my father has and my father mentions the same with respect to my grandfather and so on)?

Sri Ramanuja munaye namaha,

Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami Guruve Namaha,

Yes BhagavAtas understanding is correct. Ask both Kaamyam (depending up on necessity) plus Primarily goal that I’m YOUR SOTTHU, so protect me and give Moksham in same birth to Perumal through Alwar/Acharyar and Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami Thiruvadi, then BhagavAn will deliver.

Here is ThiruMangai Alwar Paasuram for Kaamyam and Moksham, how ””NARAYANA” naamam delivers.

<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Kulam Tharum Selvam Thandhidum
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Adiyaar Paduthuyar Aayinavellaam
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Nilandharam Seyyum Neel Visumbarulum
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Arulodu Perinilam Alikkum
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Valam tharum mattrum thandhidum Petra
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Thaayinum Aayina Seyyum
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Nalam Tharum Sollai Naan
<span style="color: #ff6600;”>Kandukondaen Narayana Ennum Naamam

https://youtu.be/4czXvr8xFJI

The purpose why Acharyas say not to ask Kaamyam is due to the fact that if we keep doing Kaamya Karma only without focussing on Kainkaryams and BhagavAn’s Happiness, then there is HIGH possibility that we will forget our ULTIMATE GOAL in life which is Kainkaryam and Moksham. So it is a check point only. That’s why any Kaamya Karma like homam etc.. are done as a Kainkaryam to BhagavAn for BhagavAt Preethyartham, so that our Mind doesn’t get carried away that it is for our own happiness instead of Thinking about BhagavAn happiness. Inturn BhagavAn does grant the needs to us due to HE being happy that we are in Alwar-Acharyas ThiruvAdi through our known Mahans (Sri Velukkudi Swami) ThiruVAdi, who has blessed all of us for Moksham in same birth.

Adiyen Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Dasan,

Uyya Oraey Vazhi UDAYAVAR ThiruVAdi,

Sarvam SriKrishnarpanam Asthu.
