Sri:

Swamy,
Due to anAdi kAla vAsana the feeling of Aham-kAram & MamaKAram is coming with us in all the birth cycles.

Adiyen feel above is one type of attachment by Athma that includes “my body”.

Secondly, we get Mother , father, kid, wife. This is also attachment.

If we need to be without relationship as per previous EnPaNi there shouldn’t be attachments whatsoever.

If adiyen remember, Swamy KoorathAzhwAn was educating his wife AndAl by saying

” If few years related wife have so much. Compassion, imagine the eternal relationship between me & lord Ranganathan spanning multiple birth janmAntharam ”

My question:
When we grow in close relationship esp. Physically, we develop this attachment adiyen beleive. That’s why Rishis go to forest. There should be a time when we treat this body itself an attached foreign entity. Adiyen remember we should think this body as snake while waking up. Why this snake also asking up with me?

Adiyen firmly believe, Bhaghawan created this attachment due to Karma or whatever reason. Ofcourse Bhaghawan has a role in manipulating Karma. Karma cannot be fully independent.

How to treat such attachments? Be without attachment means what? We are already attached? Just by mind if we say we are unattached problem solved? 🤔

Please read
“Why this snake also asking up with me?”
As
“Why this snake also waking up with me?”

Also, should we respect this janma attachment or not?

We do celebrate Swamy Velukkudi VaradachAriyAr thirunakshatram.

Is this because there is divinity for that soul or we respect this janmA relationship? This is also attachment correct? Or devareer consider father as AcharyA?

Even that case,
Is Guru-Sishya not an attachment?

Srimate Raammujaye Namaha,

Attachment(material) is perhaps those aspects which are not conducive for our service to the Lord , which we know it is so, but still are not able to give up the desire.

Spiritual attachment are those which enhances our relation with the Lord and His devotees.

Swamy,
Namaskaaram.
Adiyen feel design of this samsara is to trap into attachments at every opportunity – how come concern over deer chased by Lion be wrong ..jeeva karunyam, right? Thinking about deer, Raja Rishi has to take birth as deer – earlier he was a Raja Rishi – knowing past present and future, he decides now to stay away from all attachments.
Hence it looks tremendous amount of resistance to unnecessary attachments has to be there for attaining eternal relief!

Correct Swamy
Even in Jata Bharathar avatAr Swamy jumped over ants during holding palanquin as a token of. jeeva kaarunyam.

So jeeva kaarunyam is not wrong, yet he was detached how?

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Attachment is classified Primarily into two as per shastras.

‘1) ‘Lowkika Samyojana (Materialistic attachment)

‘2) Vaidhika Samyojana (Spiritual attachment)

********

‘1) ‘Lowkika Samyojana (Materialistic attachment):

  • Allowed for materialistic developers who are interested in socializing with those who has interests in “bhogam, kaamam, krodham, lobham, matham, maatsaryam etc“…. which has some amazing/astonishing end results of suffering, drowning in problems, and due to this continous tormented suffering in one janma or many janmas due to their repeated actions, they naturally get tamed and finally they come to the Spiritual path as 1st step (enough is enough having attachments with materialistic developers).
  • These are Aapasa Bhandus (Bodily mates, not Soul mates) or Varunkaala (Future) Prapanaas.

‘2) Vaidhika Samyojana (Spiritual attachment):

Two types:

  • A) Not allowed for Bhakthi Yoga Maargham, (three steps: Karma, Gyana, Bhakthi) which SriKrishna Preaches in BhagavAt Gita is TOTALLY about this Maargham where detachment is being taught, because only males only can do this maargham (no females, kids etc..) and they have to separate from the worldly relationship (good or bad doesnt matter) in-order to avoid distraction (just like an office goers have to keep maximum focus on work, though and avoid or keep less interaction with family, its nothung wrong thats the only possibility), so that they to do this TEDIOUS process comfortably for many yugas, janmas, kalpas etc….of Dyanam, Ashtaanga yogam to reach UPEYAM (Destination as BhagavAn) in SriVaikunta using their EFFORT as UPAYAM (path to Mokasham). This Maargham is called Saadhyopayam.
  • Karanam Thappinaal Maranam in this Maargham. So detachment is 100% necessary.

  • B) Allowed for Sharanagathy Maargham, since Upayam (Path to reach BhagavAn) and Upeyam (Destination as BhagavAn) is both BhagavAn HIMSELF, so there is NO Efforts from our side to reach Moksham (BhagavAn takes care since Acharya is HIS ThiruvAdi. This Maargham is called Siddhopayam (Siddhamaana Purushanai adaithal). But to survive and live till we reach Moksham, we need to use our efforts to Spend time Fruitfully (Time Pass) doing Service, involving in Spiritual discussion etc to reduce our remaining prarabtha karmas…due to fact that BhagavAn has given us Freedom & Freewill, there is possibility that we will either get dragged into some Lowkika attachments due to our past vaasanaas. So Acharyas and Upanyasakars pick the elements of Bhakthi Yoga maargham like detachments, viragyma words just to frighten us in-order to keep us away from Lowkikas, though it has nothing to do with Moksham, since we are reaching Moksham due to Swami RamanujAr NirHedhukai Krupai and not even our Sharnagathy. Then why do Sharanagathy, it’s for BhagavAt Preethyartham that “I Surrender and agree that I’m ONLY YOUR Property, Sotthu“. That’s why sharanagathans get confused do we need detachment after Sharanagathy. It’s only a tactics, just keep our reputation good to outside world.
    • Thirumangai Alwar says தாயே தந்தை என்றும் தாரமே கிளை மக்கள் என்றும் நோயே பட்டொழிந்தேன் (I had attachment with Mother, Father, Wife, Kids and I got only Disease…….). This is said by Thirumangai Alwar to imply one’s lifestyle before Prapatthi…..not for a Sharanagthan to follow, since ThiruMangai Alwar (Kaliyan) wife was KumudaValli Natchiyaar who was a SriVaishanavaite due to which  Kaliyan became ThiruManghai Alwar, so here Attachment is needed for a Sharanagthan, since Kumudhavalli Nachiyaar is Athma Bhandhu (Soul mate).
    • Maara Neri Nambhi (Sharanagathan), a Shisya of Yaamunacharya told Periya Nmabhi that, when HE leaves for Moksha (attain Acharya ThiruvAdi), don’t let my body cremation be done by my family members, since they are Lowkikas (Aapasa Bhandhus). So HIS family members are Aapasa Bhandus (Hence detachment from Aapasa bhandus are needed for rest of life to be in spiritual path after sharanagthy) and be Attached with Athma Bhandhu like Periya Nambi.
    • Swami Nanjeeyar who is a shishya of Swami Parasara Bhattar, one day got Sanyasa Ashramam (wanted to be deatched just for teh sake of doing Kainkaryam in rest of life, itsa personal choice). Swami Thirumalai AnathAzhwan Pillai who is another sishya of Swami Ramanujar came to know about this and advised Swami Nanjeeyar that “Pasikkum podhu pusithu, Viyarkkum podhu kulithu, Bhattar Thiruvadigalaey Sharanam yendru irundhaal, Unga Perumal umakku Moksham kudukka maataaro”, means, “After prapatti, if you eat when you are hungry & take bath when you feel sweating, and say Bhattar Thiruvadigalaey Sharanam, won’t your Perumal give you Moksham”. That is the power of Acharyar ThiruvAdi, so where is question about “Attachment & Detachment”.

    • Swami Nanjeeyar’s shishya was lying in bed in his last days to leave to Moksham. At that time, he asked Swami Nanjeeyar that “he has Detached himslef in last few years from family clutches, and then Attached himself in service to BhagavAn and Acharyas, so is this enough to get Moksham”. Swami Nanjeeyar became upset after hearing this and said to him, “so far after listening to all Kalakshepam and Upanyasam, is this the understanding that you got in the last minute while you are in bed“.

Swami Nanjeeyar said” Unnai Vida vaithu Pattra vaitha Avan ThiruvAdigalaey Upaayam”, means Detachment or Attachment is not the means to Moksham in Sharanagthy Maargham, but the ThiruvAdi of Perumal which we got through Acharyar Sambhandham is the only means to Moksham, both Upayam and Upeyam is BhagavAn.

It’s a personal choice of a Sharanagathan to be attached or detached, how one wants to spend spiritual time after Prapatti, to be in contact with Athma Bandhus inside and outside family, and detach from aapasa bandhus (varungaala prapanaas, like us in our past janma), so that our own Vaasanaas will not drag us into past memories, which will make us look bad Infront of other wordily people which will prompt them to make fun of us, but both attachment or detachment) in Sharanagthy Maargham has nothing to do with getting Moksham (Parama Padham) in same Janma, since we get Moksham due to Swami RamanuJAr Krupai.

Adiyen (ElayaAlwar) Srinivasa (DhoddayacharyAr) dasan.

With Athma Bhandus, one can be:

1) Saha Bhojana Yogyar (சஹ போஜன யோக்யர்)

Can eat with them.

2) Saha Vaasana Yogyar (சஹ வாஸன யோக்யர்)

Can live with them

3) SammBhashanai Yogyar (சம்பாஷணை யோகியர் )

Can talk with them

No detachment needed in these criteria.

Thought provoking and bold reply.

You have indicated the incidents from the life of acharyas to support your point. Fine. I believe you will be having reference from texts also to support your statement. I am not suspecting, but would like to know. Kindly provide for information.

In this regard, my thought goes the following way:-

After detailing on various margams and practices, Sri Krishna renders Charama slokam at the end of Gita.

BG 18.64 : Hear again My supreme teaching, the most secret of all; as you are exceedingly dear to Me, I will declare what is good for you.

He states that He is about to tell most secret (BG 18.64) of all. Does this mean, whatever He has told earlier are not applicable for the further information He is going to provide i.e., on saranagathy. This includes the details given by Him earlier on attachment,  Karma, Gyana, Bhakthi margams etc.,

Continuing in this context, can one infer that for one having Ramanujar Sambandham (saranagathan), ahara niyamam, daily karmas are not mandatory to get motcham?.

on September 17, 2022

Daily spiritual practices are advocated after sharanagathy. In the context “Bhagawan swameva kArithavAn” . He is doing via us.

VishnO karmANi Pashyatha

Vishnu is doing see

We should avoid bhAgavatha apachAram.

Is Saha Bhojana Yogyar not applicable for all varnas of Bhagavatha Bhandus?.

adiyen observed brahmins take food separately and others were allowed to take food subsequently in the programs of tenkalai sampradayam. I heard similar procedure being followed from others.

As per tenkalai sampradayam :

All distinctions of caste are to be disregarded after Prapatti and all Prapannas are to be given equal respect and treated with complete equality. There are no divisions of caste or status amongst the Prapannas — all are to be treated with equality.

There are also several types of bhAgavatha apachAram – discriminating / disrespecting a srivaishnava based on one’s birth, knowledge, acts, food, relatives, place of living, etc.,

So it is clearly Bhagavata apacharam, however is followed, despite the fact that they are learned. I heard people quote this discrimination, despite the principles of sampradayam.

Adiyen also had same question but got answer.

See, me as Brahmin (by birth) is not allowed to sit with VaideekAs.

They have lot of restrictions even as to how to eat.

=>Right hand side water
=>Pariseshanam
May be some Vedic rituals which we don’t know

It us better for me to not cause apachAram to them. Adiyen would better eat as Lowkika so that no Vedic scholar will scold me 😁

With lowkika SriVaishnavAa anyone can sit. In fact that’s what Swamy Ramanuja showed to us. Thirukkacchi nambi Swamigal was best example being the sole reason for SriRamanuja’s sanyAsa ashrama dharmam.

With regard to Caste Status and the Prapannas, as per

Vadakalai : Even after Prapatti, the caste distinctions as per the Dharma Sastras are to be retained in respect of all Prapannas. A low caste Prapanna is to be given only verbal respect by Prapannas of the higher castes and they should never actually be treated like Brahmins. Sudras who become Vaishnavas are to be treated with greater respect than non-Vaishnava Sudras but never on a par with brahmin Vaishnavas.

Tenkalai : All distinctions of caste are to be disregarded after Prapatti and all Prapannas are to be given equal respect and treated with complete equality. There are no divisions of caste or status amongst the Prapannas — all are to be treated with equality.

I belong to Tenkalai sampradayam, hence I have quoted only that.

One of my relative belongs to Tenkalai sampradayam, moves with several Vaishnavites (brahmins) and has good relation with them. On one occasion, they sat to have lunch. But there was silence and did not start putting the banana leave. They were discussing but being known well to them, they did not ask him to leave. After realising himself, he left the place in the pretext of attending a phone call. He mentioned that at Chinna Jeeyer’s place all the prapannas are served food together.

When it is mentioned that all distinctions of caste are to be disregarded, how does the question of Vaideeka SriVaishnava or lowkika SriVaishnava arise. The guidances prescribed are for following. If someone do not follow the guidance and show disrespect at someone, then why should that person respect him. Then apacharam comes automatically, if some one happens to face such a situation. I decided to avoid taking food in such gathering.

Satsangh is stated to be beneficial. Under such a situation, how a whole hearted participation in a satsangh is possible.

Ramanujar wanted to eat the remains of the food and separated his wife due to this. We do not get the lesson from his life.
