The concept of ‘Our’ temple

SrImate rAmAnujAya namaha!

Adiyen’s humble namaskaaram to all Periyavas,

We all know that everything in this universe is Bhagavan’s property. So temples are certainly His property. He has given permission to all of us to come and have dharshan in the temples. Which means we have to follow certain rules and regulations while entering the temple.

People generally use the term ‘Our temple’ instead of ‘Bhagavan’s temple’. The apparent danger I see in here is, as the days go on, people will tend to do anything as per their wish inside temples, stating that ‘It is our temple, we have the right to do anything. Who are you to question?’.

So is it still okay to use the term ‘our temple’ instead of ‘Bhagavan’s temple’? Or am I having useless imagination?

இந்த post-ல் தவறுகள் இருந்தால் அனைவரிடமும் மன்னிப்பு வேண்டுகிறேன்.

Srimate Raamanujaye namaha,

Swamy not sure how to address your concern, but what we can do is to make each of our homes like a temple.
But it is possible only if other family members cooperate.
Those who have the right circumstances can try.

Adiyen

Namaskaaram Swami,

Thank you for replying. Swami, adiyen’s question’s main focus is based on the possibility of some people doing anything and everything inside the temples in the future, which might be against the sastras.

So when people use the term ‘our’ temple too often, there is a possibility of doing some apacharam inside the temple claiming that it is ‘our’ right.

So adiyen was worried about the temples, mainly the Divyadesams. Of course we can transform our homes into a temple with the consent of our family members, but that is a different topic.

Srimate Raamanujaye Namaha,

Swami my reply was based on the principle that we need to see our zone of influence and take action in that area..So as a layman we cannot have much say about temples.

So I suggested about making our house a temple. But on hindsight realized that unless all family members cooperate even that is not possible.

So perhaps like what alwaars sang..we have to take care and maintain the temple of our body/heart..that is the only zone of influence we have.

P.S: I am not saying we should be careless of what happens in the temple..but probably that requires interventions from achaaryas and leaders.

Swami, now adiyen understood devareer’s viewpoint. Thanks for the reply. In case of any misunderstanding I’ll clarify from adiyen’s side. I am certainly not trying to say that we should have influence over the temples.

When I created this post, I was worried about temples, that’s why adiyen posted this. The main question in this post was :

So is it still okay to use the term ‘our temple’ instead of ‘Bhagavan’s temple’?From Shravanan of Swami's Upanyasams

Srimate Raamanujaye Namaha,

OK swami.the question is clear now..I think of one follows the original rules of the temple and is rendering service then it is OK to use the phrase as indicated above. But if one wants to take advantage and change the rules and benefit from the temple..it is not right term..so it depends on who uses it.

Adiyen

Thank you for sharing devareer’s perspective, swami. Actually adiyen expected many other periyavas too to participate in this post. But anyway, thanks for participating in this post.

If Perumal is NamPerumal then temple not Our temple?

Swami, I think EnPaniFan swami’s answer is also applicable for this question.

This was already told by thenbirai Andavan. Make each Shaligramam as temple and do thirivArAdhanam. Alayapravesham made temples less sanctity.

Point here is appadiye vitudalama?

Swami, adiyen referred to EnPaniFan swami’s 3rd answer. As per adiyen’s understanding,  ‘When bhakthas think it is our temple then that would be for devotional purposes. But if some greedy person says it, then that would be dangerous because, he/she may even try to override certain rules and eventually end up committing an offense.
