Swami,

Am an unmarried girl and had been reciting very few Thiruvaimozhi pasurams for years. Few srivaishnavas whom I associate in Sri Yadugiri Yathirajar Mutt  (Malleswaram, Bangalore) had been telling me that, it is better to recite Thiruvaimozhi and Kanninunsiruthambu after samshrayanam, while few others say there is no such restriction.

Requesting for advice.

Dear swami,

Namaskaram!

I Kannan, belong to Kamma Naidu community from a Village called Kakkivadampatti ( Near Sivakasi).

In our village when we perform thiti to our pithroos just by reciting Thiruvaaimozhi and Thirupaavai in the evening(5-7.00pm), with the guidance of Saathatha Vaishnavas.

I am quite unsure if this is the right practice or not ?

Kindly reply at the earliest, as my fathers thiti falls on 1st dec 2016 .

Regards,

T Kannan

THIRUVAIMOZHI sacredly known as BHAGAVATH VISHAYAM. That is the term used by SriVaishnavas considering its sanctity. We are hesitant to even tell it’s name because of its purity. No wonder it has restrictions.

As per adiyēn’s understanding, such restriction indeed is to ultimately lead us to understand the divinity of divya-prabandha and how sacred they are in view of our previous and current preceptors. So better option is always as preceptors say – Seek a learned person, born in the preceptor-disciple lineage and surrender unto him (tad-viddhi-praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā – bhagavad-gītā). Surrender unto such revered guru is indeed a transformation which one undergoes and with such transformed spirit one starts appreciating more about aḷvār’s glories and their works.
