Swamy please share your views on why we should remain patriotic according to Veda?

Adiyen unable to convince the current gen.

This gen say: The whole world created by Krishna and there shouldn’t be any divisions.

True! all of existence is His manifestation. So, we shouldn’t be making distinction. But this is possible only if we really have that kind of awareness in all things we do. Only when we are completely free from விருப்பு வெறுப்பு, when we are a இகபந்தங்களை முற்றிலும் துறந்த ஆத்மா, then we will be able to practise that kind of constant awareness. Sanyasis did not have a specific country; they were free to travel anywhere. They were not bothered by the small fights and unions that anyways keep happening in இக உலகம்.

For people who are still engaged in material life, we are assigned certain duties to do during our life time. All kinds of anustanams and family traditions are included. We will be able to do this in our land only when it is safe from invasions. Therefore, for every member of the society to be able to do our respective duties, a part of society was assigned the duty to protect the rest of the society from invasions. So, the sense of patriotism is an extension of our determination to preserve our precious tradition and pass it on to the next generation so that they too can make steady progress towards the goal of life.

Even in the past when people were patriotic to protect their kingdom, they didn’t hesitate to migrate to another kingdom if there was better conditions for executing one’s anustanams and duties. eg. when the Pandavas started converting Khandavamprastha to Indraprastam, many people migrated there and settled. They were able to do their respective anustanams properly and this made the land prosperous.

We have to be patriotic to what we call as “India” today, because, this is the land where the principles of Sanatana dharma are preserved. Great acharyas have blessed this land in the past and present. Great acharyas from this landscape have travelled to other parts of the world and gifted the principles of sanatana dharma to souls there. Therefore we have to protect this land and spiritual resources against all kinds of assaults – military, cultural, virtual or any other form.

Without this attachment to sanatana dharma principles and the urge to preserve them, simply speaking of “Bharat mahan” is merely political or sentimental.

dhanyosmi.

adiyen.

PS: what I have expressed here is my personal thought process. If anyone shares view points as heard from acharyas, I am happy to submit to it. adiyen.

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

Thanks for the detailed write up Swamy.

Adiyen gave three examples before reading this comment
1. Sukha Brahmam
2. Jata Bharathar
3. SadAshiva Brahmendral

But that guy refused to accept these examples. Saying I am Advaiti , all equal , no boundary, all are Brahmam.

Adiyen even asked will anyone allow you into USA without valid passport & Visa?
He says no but not accepting my definition.

He says Krishna was born to Devaki but brought up by yashodha . He accepted the change. So we also should accept.

I had shared a post on Tamil actress who got recruited into USA army. I said this is not a welcome change as she might need to stand against India when there is a conflict.

He said:
If we are made to work for USA army it’s Karma it seems.

I told Krishna not bound by Karma he did not *accept” the change but “chose” the change”

Adiyen require Vedic quotes

Namaskaaram Swami,

Adiyen belong to ‘this gen’ 🙂

So let me reply to this. Patriotism means we should treat the whole Bharatham with great reverence. So the reason is quite simple. Although all nations belong to Bhagavan, He personally chose Bharatham for His avatarams. Also a lot of Divyadesams are also in Bharatham (mostly in and around Tamil Nadu).

So the point is if we have this understanding that a lot of punya kshetrams are there in this place, then there is nothing wrong in feeling patriotic.

But if we feel that this is ‘my birthplace’, ‘my people’, ‘my family’, etc., certain problems might also come along with it. So it all depends on the right viewpoint.

So perhaps devareer could explain to ‘this gen’ the former reason. They are probably not very much into patriotism due to the problems created by the latter reason.

Ok Swamy, noted.

What is wrong in:

“But if we feel that this is ‘my birthplace’, ‘my people’, ‘my family’, etc., certain problems might also come along with it. So it all depends on the right viewpoint.”

Punya Kshetram for them is Jerusalem ) Bethlehem

Arabia is punya kshetram for some

Why should we not feel pride about our birth place or sense of attachment?

A foreign born is different. Why this emotion not applicable to Indian born?

Srimate Ramanujaaya Namaha.

Swami, “my birthplace”, “my family”, etc., are all material designations. Jerusalem and Arabia are not punya kshethram according to Vedas, as far as adiyen know. We are only speaking with shastras as the basis.

If we feel pride like “Oh this is a place of our Perumal’s avatharam”, and have attachment in that sense, there is nothing wrong in it. But if we use the word “I’ or ‘my’, there is ahankaaram. So that’s why adiyen presented that viewpoint.

Sri:

Patriotism is a general topic. Not restricted to India. Punya Kshetram in the sense they consider it “holy” and attached.

My India
My Bharath is pride not ahankaram

Saying “My mother” is not ahankaram

Okay Swami, I thought pride falls under the category of dharpam according to Bhagavad gita 16.4.

dhambhOdharpO’thimAnaSchakrOdha:pArushyamEvacha|agyAnamchAbhijAthasyapArthasampadhamAsurIm||16.4

Translation:

Oh son of kunthI! In those who have the wealth of asuras (that is, violating the orders of bhagavAn), qualities such as practicing righteousness to attain fame (of being righteous), pride (derived due to enjoying sensual pleasures), great ego, anger (which harms others), harshness (which irks noble people) and ignorance (in understanding the truth and what is to be done and not to be done) are present.

This slokam is only applicable for pride derived due to enjoying sensual pleasures.

So adiyen gave my reply based on this slokam. So maybe the pride devareer mentions doesn’t come under this category…
