“Him to whom her father may give her, or her brother with the father’s permission, she shall obey as long as he lives, and when he is dead, she must not insult (his memory).”

“A faithful wife, who desires to dwell (after death) with her husband, must never do anything that might displease him who took her hand, whether he be alive or dead.”

The title of the thread is “Without permission of family members can we take Pancha Samskaram”. Here, query (by male who is living his father) was whether pancha samskaram can be taken without informing family members. The reply given by swamy was “Will he object if you inform him”.

Inference :  Family is to be informed, before taking pancha samskaram and seems consent is required from the response, “Will he object if you inform him”.

I appreciate the efforts put in to pick up the related enpani audios on saranagati. adiyen know the amount of efforts needed for such action, since I have done it on few occasions. I also appreciate your efforts to bring the fact unambiguously, I also attempt that, hence there were long communications (I would not call as differences) earlier in the threads. At end the fact should prevail, without ego, for which both of us are attempting. My heartfelt compliments.

Well. I have listened to all these audios earlier, true, I may not be remembering the complete content, but only the gist of it. I have re-listened to enpani audio #72, twice today. Yes. It lists the rules. But what we are discussing is FAQ (requirement of permission) on these rules, which was not indicated in that audio.

Kambandasan Swami, in Thiruvaimozhi 7.1.11 and 8.911, Nammalwar refers to himself as “தொண்டர் தொண்டர் தொண்டர் தொண்டன்” and in Thirumalai 45, Alwar calls himself as “தொண்டு ஆய தொல் சீர்த் தொண்டரடிப் பொடி”. Compared to their commitment and focus towards kaimkariyam, adiyen is not even worth to be mentioned.

This is YOUR opinion. Not the opinion of acharyas. Acharyas glorify her devotion. Even more, they glorify endlessly the devotion of gopis who left their household chores and went to the forest in the middle of night. That is considered the highest form of devotion.

Acharyas advise us not to imitate them; acharyas advise us to practise devotion at our level and gradually progress. While we are in this stage of ‘practise and progress’ it is wise if we don’t pass inappropriate comments / judgements about great devotees who are gloried by our acharyas.

Acharyas / jeeyar swamys / scriptures advise us to avoid things that add more fuel to the fire called our senses.

Movies are designed to tickle our senses. It is impossible to avoid manasu sanchalam if we watch movies. If we think we are influenced by movies, we must be blind to what is happening in our mind. Just a little attention will reveal to us in what ways our mind is getting disturbed by watching even a little bit.

The manasu sanchalam is not always in the form of attraction for heros and heroines; That too happens without us realsing. But it can be in other forms too. I happened to watch a movie and a scene of brother-sister sentiment literally brought some tears in my eyes.  What a foolish thing. The story is imaginary; the situation is so cinematic and artificial. Yet I am letting my mind get influenced by it and record some material samskaras in me (i.e. soul)!

We must avoid movies; as a saranagatha, we must atleast take efforts to decrease such habits and get rid of it in this life. This comes under ‘anukulasya sankalpa and pratikulyasya varjanam‘ principles of saranagathi.

We know that not only the ingredients of the food we supply to the body must be satvic but the person who prepares it must  also be in satva gunam. Because, food prepared by a person when he/she is situated in rajo or tamo gunam can transmit the same gunam to the person who consumes the food. So, we have to do our best to consume only satva-gunam food to our body, so that our mind and intelligence can be in satva gunam.

The same logic applies to the ‘food’ we supply to the mind and intelligence directly. If we consume a lot of media products created by people in rajo- and tamo- gunam, our mind and intelligence will directly get influenced by those gunams.

Ref to the En Pani  audio # 1957 titled “குடும்பத்தில் பக்தையாக இருக்க தடுக்கிறார்கள், என் நிலை என்ன ?.”     

which is a reply for a female devotee whose husband has not permitted to take pancha samskaram. Swamy has adviced to follow internal surrender and pray to Ramanujar, who will guide. He further mentioned that she will get Ramanujar sambandham due to such act. He has not adviced her to take (physical) saranagati i.e., pancha samskaram against her husband’s wish.

In another En Pani audio #2060 titled  “பெரியவர்களிடம் அனுமதி பெறுதல்”, emphasised about taking permission before starting any vaideeha karma, from elders.
