Namaskaram.

I understood that without pancha samskara prapatti is incomplete. In our epics there are several incidents of saranagati. I hope they were not initiated with pancha samskara.

Ramanuja-ParaKalandasan Swamy,

Namaskaram.

I really wonder the speed in which you have responded pointing out the reference. Thank you.

Yes. In the audio the importance of Acharya for saranagati is mentioned. My question is, in the epics, saranagati was done directly without Acharya and pancha samskara.

Namaskaram Swami

Yes it is true that in epics, saranagati was done by individuals without any Acharya Sambandam, (considering Bhagwan as the only one ) for eg consider Arjuna, he surrendered unto Krishna’s Lotus feet for advising him of what is right, however, even after hearing the charama Slokam (Ch-18, 66th slokam), he did’nt surrendered, this is a loss one faces when not having an Acharyan to guide.

And with Gita along with Acharyan’s Upadesams now there are millions who adhere to those teachings and reach Sriman Narayanan’s Eternal Abode Sri Vaikuntam.

Now firstly, in different Yugas the Dharmas to be followed are different,  for eg, in Tretayuga, the main Margam to attain Mukti was through Dhyanam ( Ashtanga Yogam), in Dwapara Yugam it was Archanam and in Kaliyugam it is Namasankeertanam and Saranagathi.

Similarly, even in this Kaliyuga’s starting, Azhwargal took Avatarams, while they did Saranagathi, there was’nt any Acharyas and only Bhagwan was there both as an Acharyan and the one granting Moksham, After Azhwargal Kalam, the first Sri Vaishnava Acharya was Sriman Nathamunigal from him until our own Acharyan( Asmad Acharyan) the streak of guidance( Upadesams and Pancha Samskarams) as the qualification in granting Moksham has been there and will continue.

Ramanuja-ParaKalandasan swamy,
Namaskaram.

Thanks for the detailed response.

“”first Sri Vaishnava Acharya was Sriman Nathamunigal from him until our own Acharyan( Asmad Acharyan)””

Whether Sriman Nathamunigal introduced pancha samskara?.
I would like to know the meaning of “Asmad Acharyan”.

“Asmad Acharyan means my Acharyan”

I thought you have mentioned Asmad Acharya to be the present acharyan who performs pancha samskara for the bhaktha.

Namaskaram!
Adiyen Ramanuja dasan!

Normally a person do to saranagati require/need to have some basic qualifications to do saranagati and we people in this kaliyuga don’t have them. So our acharyas have made panchasamskaram where they reconnect our connection with perumal with themselves as the bridge between us so that we can obtain those qualifications and can do saranagati.
In the epics wherever there is Saranagati without panchasamskaram they may have the qualifications to do it. Also we can’t say they have done it without Acharya as they consider Perumal as their Acharya and then do Saranagati
This is what I know and if there is anything wrong
