Mudal Azhwars Timeperiod

Updated on September 15, 2023 in Azhwars

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah! Sri Sriranga Narayana Jeeyar Swamigale Saranam! Sri Velukkudi Swamigal Thiruvadigale Saranam!

adiyen have listened from Swami’s upanyasams that mudal azhwars including Thirumazhisai Azhwar were born during dwapara yuga. Can adiyen assume that either they are contemporaries of Lord Sri Krishna or they were born after Sri Krishna left but before the start of Kali-yuga / yuga sandhi? Because we can find direct references to Kannan and his pastimes in their prabhandams noted below

  1. Mudhal Thiruvandathi – 3 (7, 56, 83)
  2. Irandam Thiruvandathi – 2 (64, 100)
  3. Moonram Thiruvandathi – 5 (8, 29, 42, 50, 92)
  4. Nankam Thiruvandathi – 4 (50, 80, 84, 93)
  5. Thiruchchantha Viruththam – 6 (25, 37, 47, 71, 86, 93)

adiyen,
Badrinarayana Ramanuja Dasan.

Swami, just a kind reminder, as didn’t want the thread to be lost from the first page as new threads are coming up.

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Kali Yuga has three sections as like the other three yugas, but the time span varies.,

Poorva Sandhi Kali Yuga: 36,000 years,

Kali Yuga Actual: 360,000 years

Uttara Sandhi Yuga: 36,000 years,

so, we call the total Kali Yuga as 432,000 years

Mudhal 4 Alwars time period is somewhere in the 36,000 years of the Poorva Sandhi Period of Kali Yuga. Then Kaliyuga started and we are in the 5125 years of this kali yuga of 360,000 years.

Another note, many think, when Swami says in Upanyasam that Swami NamAlwar (5th Alwar) was born 45 days after Kaliyuga start, they start considering SriKrishna avatar ended approx 5000 years ago (the 5125 years is what they mean) which is when Dwapara yuga ended and Kali yuga started immediately. If so, it will imply that the first 4 Mudal Alwars should be born in the same period of SriKrishna at the end of Dwapara Yuga. Then the timeline doesn’t match-up. This is due to the fact that many other Krishna forums don’t consider the Uttara sandhi of Dwapra yuga (72,000 years) and the Poorva sandhi of Kaliyuga (36,000 years).

Actually, based on the timeline, SriKrishna left for SriVaikuntam 113,124 years ago from today 2023 Gregorian year.

Please find the attached timeline chart that adiyen put together based on Swami’s Alwar Vaibhavam and Srimadh BhagavAtham.

Adiyen ElayaAlwar Srinivasa DhoddayacharyAr Dasan.
