Maha mantram and Ramanujar

I am listening to Sri Ramanujar vaibhavam by Velukkudi swamy. I have two observations.

1. I have understood that Ramanuja climbed to the top of thirukoshtiyur temple and called the whole village / general public and delivered the Maha manthram to them. But in this discourse, it is mentioned that he took ’15 vaishnavites’ and blessed them individually with the Maha manthram. I am bit confused. Had he not done for the general public?.

2. Ramanujar is a very well learned Udayavar who underwent pancha samskara before thirukoshtiyur incident itself. Whether he was not aware about the Maha manthram before meeting thirukoshtiyur Nambi either through studies or gurus or acharya while taking pancha samskara?.

What would have been the population of Tirukkottiyur in late 11th century and out of that how many would Would have gathered at that moment.

Dhanyosmi Swamy, also from devareers upanyasams such as “18 Rahasyangal” adiyen remember that Sri Ramanujarcharya displayed that whoever had the desire are eligible to get the benefit of Ashtakshara Mantram compared to Thirukostiyur Nambi who mandated prerequisites for getting the benefit. Please forgive for any wrong saying / apachaarams.

I felt too happy to get the response.

Devareer has indepth knowledge and has authority on Vaishnava texts. My intention is to get the clarification only and nothing more than that. You may kindly excuse me, if you feel the query is not appropriate.

I think, probably I have not put my thoughts clearly. In my first query, two things were intended. One is on preaching to the vaishnavites and other one is on number of people. In the discourse, it is mentioned that Ramanujar preached Ashtakshara Mantram to Sri vaishnavites. Sri vaishnavites are the ones who are already initiated. I believe, Sri vaishnavites were learned people from the first varna, esp during those days. The popular belief is that Sri Ramanujar preached Ashtakshara Mantram at thirukoshtiyur for the people of all varnas. I believe this incident is one of the main why he is popular among ‘general public’. This is what I have intended.
