Long term memory boon or bane?

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

Most times adiyen forget bad and good things.

Only certain events reside in memory.

“Did I talk like that?” – means I have forgot those memories

But remembering is an art. It’s always good to quote pasuram or its number or azhwar name.

So adiyen want to know long term remembering is good or bad?

Namaskaram!

Long term memory of Perummal (Nammam, Rupam, Gunam, Leelas) , His devotees, Scriptures  etc is good and boon.

Any other things without relation to Perumaal and His devotees  — short term or long term memory is bad..

Whenever i forget something or remember I recollect this Bhagavat Gita verse

“sarvasya caham hrdi sannivisto
mattah smrtir jnanam apohanam ca
vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo
vedanta-krd veda-vid eva caham

I am seated in everyone’s heart, and from Me come remembrance, knowledge and forgetfulness. By all the Vedas am I to be known; indeed I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I am the knower of the Vedas.”

So whatever is good or bad  for us, accordingly paramatma situated in our heart will make us remember or forget!

7th minute to 8th minute Swami speaks about this topic. You are fortunate..it has happened coincidentally!

Swami cannot find the relevant details in 773 vidhura neethi in 7th to 8th minute with reference to long term memory but it is reference to kAmam.

My question is not ninaikalAmA kudAtha but ninaika mudiyarthukkum mudiyAdhadhukkum enna kAranam?.

Sometimes even if I think hard cannot recollect. Same happens to students in exam. Sometimes even the faintest will be remembered.

People say everything gets stored in subsconcious mind. Just that we don’t want to remember certain things like phone number so we forget.

If thats the case, we want to pass and score 100% in exams, we study with that intention only, still we are unable to retrieve.

We now don’t remember what we studied in 7th standard. Adiyen still remember a Krishna Premi Anna upanyAsam in R.R sabha that

“River water is running it seems as if running but the molecule you saw is not the same molecule you see, what you saw is already gone but stilll river seems to be running that’s life”.

Certain things like this retained in memory along with certain bad things too adiyen accept

My question what causes this memory retention or forgetfulness ? Is this selective willful or perumAl’s leelA? Jeeva swAthanthriyam or Bhagavath sankalpam?

Adiyen is clear from your answer thats it’s his wish but wish to know if any such audio is already dealt with.

I am sorry Sir, I did hear in one of the vidura neethi /enpani audios around the period of last week in November. I am not able to relocate it exactly now.

But The message was we should remember Good things (about Perumaal) and forget bad things (non important things) the main message of the audio was different, this was only for a minute so finding it difficult to locate it back.

Regarding your question i wish to clarify that though rememebrance and forgetfullness is enacted by Paramatma’s wish as we saw in the bhagavat Gita verse, based on our desire he grants permission.

for every action there are five parts involved- soul, supersoul, individual efforts and others’s,  senses and the body. So remembrance also involves soul’s free will/desire but final granting is done by Paramatama.
