Killing of household pests and insects

Swami,

Namaskaram!

What is ahimsai in today’s extent? Does it change according to times?

How can we avoid the killing of insects such as mosquitoes, cockroaches, common household ants, and spiders?

What if our efforts to control them through window nets (for mosquitoes) have no effect and we are also terribly allergic to repellents?

I have been killing them even though they don’t pose a direct threat to our life but cause enormous health issues and nuisance too.

Srimate Raamanujaya Namaha,

Very tough situation indeed , there are so many circumstances like that where we are forcibly committing himsai, travel in automobiles, capsules made of gelatin, and killing insects as you have indicated.

I think as per sastras life endangering species can be killed .
For other normal insects keeping the place clean proactively, using natural ingredient repellant are good options..in the last option of killing insects, we need to regret for our actions and wish that the soul moves into higher bodies soon and we can pray that we don’t want to be in such compromising situation. Also after we get rid of insects, how we spend our time and situation after that also determines the outcome.

Sri:

Adiyen have three direction response:

1. My mother used to say, if human life is under trouble killing them is not wrong
2. In Andavan Ashramam, when my Acharya Sri Rangaramanuja Mahadesika Swamy was present, Swamy used to instruct “Burning Of Neem Leaves” to ward off musquitoes
3. Andavan Swamy asked us to avoid Lizol to clean floor

That’s all
