is smarta and vaishnava a sva-dharmam

Namaskarams,

I heard in your upanyasam that each person should follow their sva-dharmam.

I am a smartha. In our tradition, there is no form of pancha samskaram so that we can do saranagathi through an acharya. But I heard to get moksham we need to do saranagathi through an acharya. Our forefathers were dikshitars and shakti upasakars. At the same time, Narayana is para daivatham and considering others equal to or greater than Him is a sin.

Therefore, I want to do pancha samskaram so that through acharya I can also attain moksha, but I am confused whether that amounts to changing my sva-dharma. Since after pancha samskaram I will wear urdhva pundram instead of viboothi, and all the sandhyavandanam and other rituals may have changes as well. Does this amount to a change in sva-dharma? If so, will it be a sin or is it ok (because it is for a higher purpose of attaining moksha)?

Thank you for time and consideration

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namah! Sri Sriranga Narayana Jeeyar Swamigale Saranam!
Swami,

Adiyen will try to answer with whatever little knowledge I have. Please pardon me for my ignorance. At first, the ultimate goal of a finest Sri Vaishnava is to eternally serve Sriman Narayana and His devotees and receive utmost Bliss and pleasure through that. Moksham is a just a means to that and our Jagadacharyar has made it easily accessible for fallen souls like me through the Acharyas by the formal intiation process known as Pancha Samskaram.

When you are given mantra upadesam as part of Pancha Samskaram and receive the Charama Slokam “sarva-dharmān parityajya
mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja
ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo
mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ”
Lord clears says in Gita 18.66 let go all varieties of religions and Dharma and just Surrender unto and I will take care, do not fear. This even includes all the other paths like Karma, Gyana and Bhakti (as stated by Lord himself in previous verses) and dependencies on all other Demi gods including your Kula deivam (if it’s not Sriman Narayana) (as stated by Velukkudi Swamigal also in enpani). To confirm this, Ramanucharyar wrote in Kanchi Varadaraja Perman hands “Do not fear”.

Now reg. Svadharma, my humble opinion is that we have let go any of our swadharma that is against our Alwars and Acharyars principle teachings. It’s ok to continue for eg. Business (that’s not against Srivaishnava principles) if you are a Vaishya but keeping in mind the ultimate purpose of your life. The Lord himself has said let go and there is no sin.

Adiyen,
Badrinarayana Ramanuja Dasan?

PS: Dear Velukkudi Swamigal and senior devotees in this forum like Kongilpiratti and others, as Adiyen (a humble neophyte devotee) is participating in these forums recently please pardon my ignorances and correct my wrong sayings?

Sri:

“senior devotees in this forum like Kongilpiratti and others,”

Swamy “others” la yaru yaru ellam included?. because adiyen consider myself junior.

On what criteria devareer divided devotees into senior /junior?

Based on age?
Based on experience?
Based on knowledge?
Personal preference?

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Vikram Swami,

What Badri Swami has meant by saying “…. Dear Velukkudi Swamigal and senior devotees in this forum like Kongilpiratti and others,…….”,

Means anyone who can say the answer based on “PoorvaAcharyas teachings AS IT IS with reference to a Pramaanam“, so when we quote with Poorvacharyas Pramaanam, then it is authentic answer which will not have our IGNORANT INSERTION as mentioned by Velukkudi Swami beautifully in today’s Enpani #1746 as “Moodar Avaar“.

So if devareer share answer as said above, then devareer is considered as one among the senior devotees. The only person who inserts answers based on ones own interpretation is the one who will refuse Badri Swami’s statement and populate incorrectly as “BhagavAtA Apacharam”

Namaskaram,
In enpani kindly listen to 148 Vishnu sahastranamam, posted on June 1 2018… Vaishnavism is more wholistic and doesn’t see anything other than being a Vishnu bhaktha in true sense. When you will get it done Acharyan will guide on how to follow n what sampradayam to follow henceforth

The ‘sarva dharma’ in bagavad Geetha is for karma gyana bhakthi yoga.. to not use them as means for moksha and do sharanagathi instead. We have to hold on to our age old practices from our lineage and pancha samskaram should definitely not be a hindrance to that. Our azhwars story.. thirumazhisai azhwar might inspire you to take the divine step..

Thanks
Adiyen

Namaskaram and thank you All for your valuable suggestion.  I am feeling blessed to receive your suggestions.  Please let me know if I should understand that Smarta and Vaishnava etc are swardharmam.

Namaskaram.

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha,

Namaskaram Narayana97 Swami,

With Acharya ThiruvAdi Bhalam and Velukkudi Swami’s Aasirvadham, adiyen will share few things from Swami’s “Sanatana Dharma” Upanyasam extending Badri Swami’s & AdiyenRamanujadasi’s valid references in-order to provide some the definitions.

Worksip based on DevatA,

• Vaishnava – Worship Vishnu (ParamAthma, Supreme DevatA)

• Saiva – Worship Shiva

• Sakta – Worship Shakthi

• Ganapatya – Worship Ganapathi

• Saura – Worship Surya

• Kaumara – Worship Muruga

• Smarta – Worship any deity and focus on adherence to smritis.

SMRITI : The sections of the Veda which is remembered by the rishis are called SMRTI – (that which is remembered).

SRUTI : The sections of the Veda Which are heard are called SRUTI – (that which is heard)

Smṛiti. These are works composed by trustworthy persons like Sage Manu, Bodhayana and Yājñavalkya recalling the Sruti. They are also valid means of knowledge. They follow the line of the Sruti and explain as to how to put theory to practice.

So Devareer calling self as Smarta is not necessarily mean only Saiva, it could be any deity like Vishnu (ParamAthma) or other devatas, but it seems like devareer’s personal family tradition were praying Shiva.

So, as per the Smarta definition, a Vaishnava is also a Smarta, a Saiva is also a Smarta, does devareer get this point?

But If devareer is interested in Moksham and Kainkaryam, then the ParamAthma Sriman NarayanA is the only one that one need to adhere as per Mumukkshupadi grantham written by Swami Pillai LokAcharyAr and Rahasya Traya Saaram grantham written Swami Vedanta Desikar, which Velukkudi Swami has said in the past.

Adiyen (ElayaAlwar) Srinivasa (DhoddayacharyAr) Dasan.

Moreover Narayana97 Swami

Velukkudi Swami has said PanchaSamskaram is only an eligibility to do ThiruAradhanai to Perumal, it doesn’t gauranteed Moksham, so by doing PanchaSamskaram we are actually getting Ramanuja Sambhandham due to which SriRama gives us Moksham since we become Sambhandhi of Swami Ramanujar as informed in Gadhya Trayam. So Velukkudi Swami has said Ramanuja Sambhandham is important for Moksham.

And there are 18 ways to get Ramanujaya Sambhandham for Moksham as per “Prapannamritham Grantham

one way is PanchaSamskaram/Prapatthi,

second is by Doing poojai to Swami Ramanujar’s any small idol,

third is saying “Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha” 108 times or chanting 108 slokams of Ramanuja NoorthAndhadhi,

So on…18 ways.

Any one way will give Moksham to devareer due to Swami Ramanujar Krupai.

We Adiyaars had the opportunity to get PanchaSamskaram Prapatthi, so we did it, and we follow other 17 ways in the mean time as a GRATTITUDE TO to Swami Ramanujar and not as a Means to Moksham.

So don’t worry, devareer is already a Swami Ramanujar Sambhandhi and will get Moksham due to Velukkudi Swami’s Aasirvadham.
