I am shiva among rudras.

Srimathe ramanujaya namaha 🙏

Swamy, Lord krishna had himself said in Bhagavad Gita,

” 👉 I am Rama among kings
👉 I am shiva among 11 rudras
👉I am Indra among devas
👉I am skanda among warriors”

Swamy, generally we accept the first one and say Rama = krishna.

But, Why we don’t accept the last there? Our acharyas have said we should not compare bhagavan with others. But, here bhagavan had equated him to be others.

Why?

Dasanu dasan 🙏

Namaskaram Swami,

Velukkudi Swami has mentioned multiple times that we Sri Vaishnavas respect every devatha but with the understanding that Perumal is the antaryami in all of them and our surrender is only to Perumal.  “Our acharyas have said we should not compare bhagavan with others.” = this is correct but by saying I’m Shiva among Rudras, Lord is not equating Himself to them. Krishna is only telling us that I’m the best of the best.

In BG 10.2 He starts with

na me viduḥ sura-gaṇāḥ
prabhavaṁ na maharṣayaḥ
aham ādir hi devānāṁ
maharṣīṇāṁ ca sarvaśaḥ

The key is aham ādir hi, which confirms that He is not giving that part to anyone else. And He also reconfirms in 10.8 that everything emanates from Him

ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo
mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate
iti matvā bhajante māṁ
budhā bhāva-samanvitāḥ

The above mention about Shiva, which is BG 10.23 is a response to a question asked by Arjuna in BG 10.27 on how to constantly remember Krishna through His various forms. This question by Arjuna was raised to help souls, based on their different levels of conditioning, to remember (paricintayan) the Lord and finally go to Him.

kathaṁ vidyām ahaṁ yogiṁs
tvāṁ sadā paricintayan
keṣu keṣu ca bhāveṣu
cintyo ’si bhagavan mayā

Krishna also concludes the chapter in BG 10.42 saying that what is the use of all this knowledge (kiṁ jñātena

atha vā bahunaitena
kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna
viṣṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛtsnam
ekāṁśena sthito jagat

The scene continues to the next Chapter (11) where Arjuna desires and sees the Universal form of the Lord and finally in BG 11.50, Sanjaya tells Dhṛtarāṣṭra that based on the request from Arjuna, the Lord showed his original form (svakaṁ rūpaṁ), which is the Narayana or the four-armed form.

sañjaya uvāca
ity arjunaṁ vāsudevas tathoktvā
svakaṁ rūpaṁ darśayām āsa bhūyaḥ
āśvāsayām āsa ca bhītam enaṁ
bhūtvā punaḥ saumya-vapur mahātmā

So simply our acharyas focussed on the Narayana form and Azhwars mostly focussed on the  Krishna form as Krishna himself said in BG 11.52 after showing His human-like form on the request from Arjuna

śrī-bhagavān uvāca
su-durdarśam idaṁ rūpaṁ
dṛṣṭavān asi yan mama
devā apy asya rūpasya
nityaṁ darśana-kāṅkṣiṇaḥ

Hope this helps.

Sri:

As Perumal is
Uyar vara uyar nalam udayavan

உயர் வர உயர் நலம் உடையவன்

So PerumAl choosing best of best from what we can perceive in this samsAram

PerumAl can even say “I am anti-matter” but we won’t understand “avyaktham” 🙆‍♀️🙆‍♀️🙆🙆🙇🙇🙇🙇

So PerumAl choosing best of best from what we can perceive in this samsAramFrom vikraminside

So this opens up a question on why Lord Siva is the ‘best of the best’ of jeevAtmAs or say RudrAs??

I don’t think Lord Siva holds any special position in our sampradAyam.

Unlike a few other Vaishnava sects, does our sampradAyam really agree that Lord Siva is the first devotee of bhagawan??

We should ask Perumal this question.

Madhangalil Avan maargazhi

Maasaanam maargaseersho aham

Appo matha masam wastea?

Purattasi famous for Perumal.
See, ellamey Perumal dhan

As we should come up from rajo & tamo Gunam

Whatever that is sathvikam Perumal holds it

Sri Rama Rama Rama ithi
Baja Govindam

All said by Shiva amsam only
Secondly my friend used to say Shiva is different from rudra

There are many rudras
Ekadasha & other classifications

Whether Shiva first Sri Vaishnavite or not, is not my concern

Perumal said so it true that’s it

Speaking of ruthu seasons

Vasantha ruthu, greeshma ruthu etc

Sri U.Ve KarunakarachAriyAr interprets,

Each ruthu is good for a varNa.

My question, what’s the basis ?
Veda

From where Veda came ?
AporushEyam (nobody created it)

Yet Veda speaks the language of lord how?
Shruthi Smrithir mamaiva agnya

Shruthi & Smrithi are my orders says lord Krishna

So, if we keep on digging deep. We understand everything originated from Perumal.

What Krishna says is law. If he says he is Shiva among Rudras, I have no problem at all

In Vishnu Sahasranama he holds a name Shiva

Sarva sharva Shiva SthAnu:
Rudro baushira babru:

So nothing wrong. We worship the Narayana form which is the source as it is i.e. swaroopam

What Krishna says is law. If he says he is Shiva among RudrasFrom vikraminside

Our purvAchAryars say it as bhagawAn being the antaryAmi of Lord Siva.

However, since bhagawAn resides in every jivAtmA, there was no need for him to say that “I’m Shiva among RudrAs” and “I’m Indra among devAs” and so on.

Hence we must finally equate his (bhagawAn) words to something very special about mahAdevan. But not sure how?
