I have heard Swamy speak on this. Memory is not clear on where I have heard this. I checked the EnpaNi list; couldn’t locate.

May be you can try the 16 samskaarangal CD. (given with KKT calendar a few years ago).

I too don’t have that CD right now. I don’t know if I heard the details on “in exceptional situations what are the prescribed alternative methods of offering Shradhdham to forefathers?” in that CD or somewhere else.

I found the below passage through google search. The content of what our Swamy said is similar to what is in this passage. In any case, please check and try to hear directly from our Swamy’s upanyasam rather than go by the unauthenticated source below:

“நதிக்கரைகளுக்கு சென்று, அந்தணர்களுக்கு தட்சணை கொடுத்து தர்ப்பணம் செய்யலாம். அதுவும் முடியவில்லை என்றால், ஒரு பிடி எள்ளை தானம் செய்யலாம். அதுவும் முடியவில்லை என்றால், ஒரு பிடி எள்ளை கையில் எடுத்து, தீர்த்தத்தை விட்டு கீழே விடலாம். இதெல்லாம் முடியாவிட்டால், பசுவை வலம் வந்து வணங்கலாம். அதற்கும் முடியாவிட்டால், வெட்டவெளியில் நின்று இரண்டு கைகளையும் உயரே தூக்கி, “பித்ரு தேவதைகளை வணங்க வேண்டும் என்பது என் ஆசை தான். ஆனால் முடியவில்லை. எனவே, பித்ரு தேவதைகளே… நீங்கள் எல்லாரும், நான் சிரார்த்தம் செய்ததாக எண்ணி திருப்தி அடையுங்கள்…’ என்று வேண்டலாம்.

இதை விட சாஸ்திரம் நமக்கு என்ன சலுகையைத் தந்துவிட முடியும். மேற்கண்ட பரிகாரங்களுக்கு ஒரு பாக்கெட் எள் போதாதா. எள் எந்த அளவுக்கு வேண்டும் என்றால், கை கட்டை விரலில் எள்ளை ஒற்றிக்கொண்டு, அதில் தண்ணீரை விட்டு கீழே விட்டால் கூட போதும் என்கிறது சாஸ்திரம்.”

But I would request you to always take advice from your family’s bruhaspati swami on such issues.
