Firstly, our Swamy has repeatedly told many times, “uyar kulam” mentioned by Azhwar is not by birth but means a “devoted SriVaishnavite family”.

மொழியைக் கடக்கும் பெரும் புகழான் வஞ்ச முக்குறும்பாம்

Here Vancha Mukkurumbu refers to:

1. உயர் குலத்தில் பிறந்தோம் என்ற குல செருக்கு
2. கூரத்தின் அதிபதி என்கிற செல்வ செருக்கு
3. ஞான செருக்கு

This clearly condemns the “higher” mentality by any social order, richness or knowledge referring to Swamy KoorathAzhwAn’s greatness.

Therefore, SriVaishnavam considers discrimination as sin.

Coming to hierarchy, hierarchy the term itself is not wrong. It cannot be avoided in a society.

1. Every organisation has an hierarchy
Boss – Subordinate
2. Politicians who talk against hierarchy call themselves leader & others as followers.
Leader – follower
3. Children to abide by Parent’s instructions that’s also a form of a social order
Parent – Child

4. Guru – Sishya
Therefore, SriVaishnavam has Guru – Sishya relationship/hierarchy and there is nothing wrong about it

To cite from Srimath Ramayana,
Maharishi Valmiki says
“Guha, Ramasya Athma Sama SaKhA”

Guhan, the forest dweller, who is unequal by society’s perception to equal a chakravarthy SriRam, is a Soul-Mate to SriRam and thus a friend!

This means, SriVaishnavam clearly registers, at Soul level all are equal. For all other practical purpose the Teacher-Student, King – Citizen respective continues to exist…
