Gods photo/Statue

Namaskaram Swamy,

Can we keep Gods statue or photo in closed bureau that is in pooja room.That bureau is only for keeping pasuram books and other related things.In inner rack,we have kept some specific Gods statue /photos.In our house,apart from perumal we have other Gods photo also.I have kept krishna statue and my most liked perumal photos inside(outside also there).

While doing pooja,used to open and do harathi, neyvethiyam..I have heard some saying like we should not keep Gods photo inside and close.Is something wrong doing like this?.Please clarify.

It is not clear whether the ‘pooja place’ is the bureau itself, or the pooja place is different and the bureau is just for storing ‘extra’ pictures and books?

Lord in the form of Saligramam is worshipped daily and then kept closed in a small wooden box. So, keeping the God’s forms (pictures or deities) in a shelf and closing the shelf after pooja seems ‘not wrong’ to me.

Pooja place is different and bureau (in pooja room) is just for storing keeping other things.

There is nothing wrong in storing/ keeping extra pictures and statues in a closed shelf, ma. For instance, every year for Navarathri-Golu we display many murtis of Gods and demigods; but rest of the year these are nicely packed and stored in a closed box or shelf.

Even for the God pictures and Deities who are worshipped daily, it is not wrong to close the altar after the worship. Next time you meet someone knowledgeable you can ask them if there are any specific simple procedures to follow when we close the door.

For example, in the movie Dasavatharam, the lady character who travels with Lord’s Vigraham through many adventures, follows a simple procedure to make the Lord sleep when leaving Him in the river bed.

Similarly, you can learn some simple procedure and follow that.

He looked so beautiful. My Amma asked me to buy any good one she cannot walk outside.

Avlo dhan life. Perumal kitta enna bayam? Edhukku ivlo seriousness?
