Fly glue trap in Tirumala!

Adiyen saw fly glue trap next to deity. The flies stuck to glue and starve to death. This is absurd. Velukkudi Swamin told thirumalai nambi (If I remember correct) restored ants in top of hill after realising it in bottom hill (basement).

Kulasekhara Azhwar sung “thirumalaiyil yedhenum aaveney (will become anything in thitumala) and so did Ramanujar climbed uphill by knees”

By killing creatures in tirumala are we not doing injustice to kulasekhara azhwar?

I see electric flies killer in the ashram am associated with. I got shocked when a grass hopper or something getting burned in electric shock. Could not bear it but pray to my Acharyan for its moksham. I am afraid to open my mouth because Acharyan is my only attachment in this world. If scolded, my ego will supercede. Earlier they used Neem smoke to chase away musquitoes and flies. Cannot stop asking this question. Tried not to ask several times.

Where are we going? How to stop this?

Velukkudi Swamy told “KoorathAzhwan started crying after hearing the cries of a frog eaten by a snake” he fainted unable to help.

The incident is more or less similar. Not sure if it’s snake and frog. It’s Jeeva kaarunyam that’s important.

Then do we ignore these thinking it’s act of nature?

What’s wrong it’s those insects that fall as prey. We are not killing it?

Swami, this question is tied to Adiyen’s post ‘inside-out’. Swami can share if there is any answer, or Adiyen requests Swami to check with the Acharyan and share the answer.

Therila adiyen is afraid to even check this dharma sandeha thread after asking this question because am adharmic myself.

Early morning got one practical answer. One pooraan came to bathroom and I killed it with red colour hit. I want myself & my kid to survive.

Interpreting human devotee’s life is more important than these poisonous creatures. Or these creatures have their own space and should not enter human territory.Though it’s against our scriptures where we consider all living beings equal but it’s not practical.

Adiyen is not ananthAzhwan to say ” if this snake wins I will do kainkarya in Srivaikuntam if body snake wins I will do kainkarya to lord Venkateshwara in tirumala”

Aneka Koti Namaskaram

In Bagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, “Atma never kills or is killed by someone”. What is killed is body only.

Ramakrishna Parahamsar says, “Narayana is Antaryami of all. But, we cannot hug a tiger for this reason”.

Though Parabrahma is indweller of all, a Jiva’s attitude depends on his karma and trigunas of Prakriti (Sattva, Rajo and Tamas). Our acts also depends on these. A Jiva is also divine, only because of the presence of Lord as inseparable yet different Antaryami.

Let us try to adhere Dharma as prescribed in scriptures to the best extent possible. However, in case of emergency, our intrinsic nature comes out. This can be changed by being in Narayana Smaranai always and by seeing Narayana as Antaryami of all living beings and Jada.

Earlier when an ant bites Adiyen, I used to kill it. Then, just thought a while on impact of harm done by ant to me and harm done by myself to ant. If ant bites, I will not die. But, ant loses life if I show anger. Hence, I started blowing the ant now days without harming it yet protecting myself.

I am allergitic to cockroaches. Earlier, I used to kill them on the moment I see them. But, now days, I cover it with a vessel, move it till door and throw it out without killing.

This is the best I can do for other creatures as I am a common man of lower caliber and not a Gnani.

Few more things that surprised me in my life. When I do Sandhya Vandhanam and Gayatri, I feel some mosquito bites and I slap them to death. Then, I used to pray Lord that, “Oh Lord Sriman Narayana! You are Antaryami of all creatures. I don’t have control over myself or these mosquitoes. But, You do have. So, please guide us. May the mosquitoes not bite me. May I not kill them due to my lower nature and add sins.” I don’t know if mosquito bites or not. But, to my surprise, I don’t feel bites after this prayer everytime.

Similar approach can be shown to all creatures. We may try to protect ourselves as far as possible, without killing them. Yet, due to our intrinsic nature, if we kill unintentionally in emergency situation or without a choice, just leave the results to Lord Himself.

This is my understanding about Pooran which was killed.

I don’t know how to take fly trap in Tirumala.

In few people’s views, it may look like a sin. But, I am thinking about the flies that may directly go to Moksham or to higher worlds by dying in Punya Kshetram like Tirumala.

I will be happy if I get a chance to die at Tirumala in this birth. I feel that the flies are lucky and the Lord of Tirumala is showering His mercy on those flies.

“Ulagam Yaavaiyum Thaamulavakkalum Nilaiperuthalum Neekkalum Neengala Alagila Vilayatudaiyar Avar Thalaivar Annavarke Saranangale” – Kamba Ramayanam Kadavul Vazhthu.

Out of His limitless games, which a normal person can’t understand, there remains a mercy of Him on some Jivas even through sinful acts of another Jiva. One who is yet to realize completely, feels that the self is doer of actions.

Nothing to worry. Let us simply surrender and free ourselves from karma. A surrendered devotee takes both merits and demerits as mercy of Lord Sriman Narayana. Intentional sins are always punishable. But, I believe God forgives unintentional sins or mistakes done out of fear or circumstances. He knows how to make us free of sins and grant as Moksham.

“Sarva Dharman paritjajya maam ekam charanam vraja. Aham tva sarva papebyo mokshayisyami maa such” – Statement of Gita, Chapter 18.

Let us not worry about mistakes already happened. Let us only see how to correct in future with guidance of Acharyan and the Almighty God. Still if it is out of control, no need to worry. Leave everything to Him.

Hare Krishna! Aneha koti namaskaram!

Perfect approach and answer. Few more thoughts on this topic. This is also tied to ‘acharam’ or outside cleanliness. If the house is so clean, then the chances for cockroach like insects (entering) the house is also very remote. If the house is not maintained then there are more chances for such insects getting in, (perhaps, purely for search of food) and killing them adds karma, in turn, adds impurity inside. So the ‘inner’ cleanliness is connected to ‘outer’ cleanliness.

Heard, the reason for making ‘arisi mavu kolam’ is to feed the ants outside the home, so they do not enter the home searching for food.

Please forgive Adiyen if this in any way reflects as a critique of house maintenance, as this is very much the case @ Adiyen’s home resulting in arguments now and then 🙁

Perfectly agreed.

If we consider an action is sin, then we can put best efforts to avoid the cause of that act.

Sorry all
“In Bagavad Gita, Lord Krishna says, “Atma never kills or is killed by someone”. What is killed is body only.”

Easier said than done:

Krishna Premi Swami has told:
Ava avaalukku varumbodhu dhan kamyartha bhakthi arumai puriyum.

If adiyen have that much Athma Gyanam this question itself will not arise.

Aneka Namaskaram Swamy

Atma Gnanam is not impractical. May be difficult. But, it’s achievable through grace of God and Acharyar and is inturn based on how much we are determined to attain it (Shraddhai).

So, let us make sincere attempts and leave rest to Him.

These practical life situations are the ones to test ourselves on the Vedantic knowledge we gained. When we apply them and see the results, it is really enjoyable. But, mostly we go by emotions in emergency situations.

Only thing is, we shall not give place for emotions and apply our buddhi in practical situations.

Katopanishad compares a human with chariot. The chariot is body, horses are 5 senses, kadivalam or rope is mind, charioteer is buddhi and one who travels is Jivatma. Ultimately, one who directs is Paramatma. The path of travel is worldly objects. So, if we don’t apply our learnings practically in life, in this path filled with worldly objects, the efforts put in learning will go in vain. Isn’t it? Learning gives knowledge and following it only gives wisdom.

The rope will be going in the directions pulled by horses. Similarly, mind keeps on raising thoughts based on what is perceived by senses. But, as a charioteer directs the horses in right direction, one shall apply buddhi, keeping apart emotions and think what is right and what not?

Mind goes by our intrinsic nature and karma. When buddhi is applied, it can be overcome and it’s practically possible to choose right path.

As per Katopanishad, worldly objects are powerful than senses as they pull senses, mind is powerful than worldly objects as worldly objects cannot pull senses while mind is concentrating somewhere else, buddhi is powerful than mind, Jivatma is powerful than buddhi, Prakriti is powerful than Jivatma, Ishvara (Brahmam) is powerful than Prakriti and none is powerful than Ishvara. If we understand this relation properly and apply as required in given situation, everything is possible.

I do agree that saying is easy. Following is difficult but not impossible. Choice is ours. Success is in the hands of God.

One more.

What is Brahma Gnanam? To what extent is it possible?

Brahmam cannot be completely comprehended. May be, it’s possible in state of Moksha but not at the stage before it.

Kenopanishad says, “One who says I know Brahmam doesn’t know Brahmam. One who says I don’t know Brahmam knows Brahmam.”

A common man may ask, “Many people are even atheists and they might not even heard the word Brahmam. They don’t know Brahmam. So, does it mean they know Him?”

Kenopanishad clarifies this in very next sloka.

“I know about Brahmam. At the same time, I don’t know Him completely. One who thinks like this knows Brahmam”.

Means, one can have Brahma Gnana to the maximum extent possible to his capability. But, no one can completely know Brahmam.

Hence, we shall always attempt to reach this maximum capability and not consider that I am at far distance from Atma Gnana or Brahma Gnana.

We may fail several times. But, we shall continue attempting. Practical life situations are exams to access ourselves our level of Atma Gnana. We shall keep on increasing it as long as life permits, to the best possible extent.

Just conveyed whatever was grasped by my sittrarivu by learning some scriptures here and there.

Kindly pardon if there are any mistakes and for a very long post. Sorry if you consider the direction of thread or question asked is changed by these responses.

It was very generic and didn’t mean anyone in specific. Shraddhai is a general quality that everyone requires. While I am half-baked yet, how can I comment on someone in specific?

In fact I joined few days back and I don’t know anyone except Velukkudi Swamy. Even to Swamy, I have not spoken so far. I only know his face and voice.

Just gave my understanding and it’s not specific. Kindly pardon me for the same.

I am blessed to hear that you are on right track through blessings of Velukkudi Swamy.

Seri
“Prakriti is powerful than Jivatma”
Cannot understand this.

Mukkur Lakshmi Nrusimhachsriyar Swamy has told this order
Shareeram -> Indriyam -> Manas -> Buddhi -> Jivathma -> ParamAthma

Why prakruthi is not featuring here? How come prakruthi which is full of Agyanam (poi) can overtake JivAthma which is full of knowledge?

For example veda says:
Earth does not know existence of sky
Sky does not know existence of Earth

Both are realised only by JivAthma. How come earth & sky which is part of prakruthi (knowledgelessness) takes priority over JivAthman (knowledge)?

Prakriti means nature. There are three realities per Vedanta, which are Brahmam, Jiva and Moola Prakriti. Prakriti we see comes from this Moola Prakriti. Some Acharyas term as Avyaktha.

Though Jivatma is conscious being and Prakriti is non-living, nature is mightier than Jiva and can be controlled beyond certain extent only by Ishvara.

For example, in occasions of Tsunami, Earthquake, Storm etc, nature proves to be mightier than us. Nature is controlled by Ishvara and Jiva is not capable of controlling it. In such natural calamities, only Ishvara can save a Jiva too and Jivas are incapable of saving themselves by controlling nature.

If you are interested, let me try to give Katopanishad Sloka. However, it seems you have read them already.

Condition of a Jiva is beautifully explained by Kenopanishad via a story which you would be knowing too.

Devas won Asuras and thought they won themselves. Lord Sriman Narayana tried to teach them lesson. He appeared in the form of Yaksha. He placed a grass in front of Agni and Agni could not burn it. He placed a grass in front of Vayu and Vayu could not blow it.

Later Devas realized that the Yaksha was Lord Himself and understood that they are not mighty without Him.

Jiva may be conscious being. But, he is incapable of functioning himself without Ishvara. Yes. Nature is mightier than Jiva and controlled only by Ishvara. Jiva goes by Sattva, Rajo and Tamas (which are three qualities of Prakriti) but Ishvara is not affected by these three gunas.

When it comes to Sristi from Moola Prakriti (or cosmic egg) or may it be it’s Stithi or Samhara, Vedas totally attribute it to Ishvara and not Jivas. Hence, even in the context of Srishti from Prakriti, Jiva is not controlling Prakriti.

We may be able to show our powers over few non-living things which is also because of Ishvara. However, Prakriti in reality is mightier than Jiva but Prakriti is also powerful due to Ishvara.

Hope I have not confused.

If there was real knowledge why would anyone commit sin?

I can justify this from the Visishtadvaitam book I read, may my understanding be right or wrong.

However, I am not interested in making you more emotional through my words. Just thought of exchanging learnings. Bagavata Apacharam is the greatest of all sins. I don’t want to see emotions of a Bagavathan and hence I will stop.

In fact, not only this thread but let me not post anything in the forum for others questions. Who am I?

My purpose of joining is to get my doubts clarified from Velukkudi Swamy but not to prove that I know something.

I beg your forgiveness if I have hurt you by any means.

May Lord Narayana forgive me for the Bagavata Apacharam.

Narayana,

What adiyen meant was misunderstood. It meant, it was more of emotional when devar said:

“I will be happy if I get a chance to die at Tirumala in this birth. I feel that the flies are lucky and the Lord of Tirumala is showering His mercy on those flies.’

Adiyen could not take this because of adiyen such words are coming from devar.

It was just like azhwar’s anubhavam. Devareer’s contribution is very vital to our sampradhayam.

As adiyen is extremely under qualified to speak anything adiyen can take leave or break from this Community.

Foe Adiyen. loneliness is not new. Adiyen not require any praise or popularity by discussing any controversial questions.

Sri Karunakaraya Namaha,

(Anaithu Jeeva raasigaludan karunaiyodu irukkum Swami Ramanujar’ai Vanangukiraen)

Sri Dasarathiye Namaha,

Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami Guruvae Namaha,

Dear Bakthas,

Phenominal “Jeeva Kaarunyam” (mercy on all Jeevathmas residing in different bodies). Adiyen’s Pranaamam.

“Oh Lord Sriman Narayana! You are Antaryami of all creatures……………….May I not kill them due to my lower nature and add sins”. Perfectly said.

For self defense on “non-poisonous” creatures like insect, mosquito etc, we can avoid without causing any harm.

References:

1) Enpani #476 “Irritating Flies & Mosquitos”

2) Enpani #508 “Animals in Temples” (after minutes 8:40)

3) “Kainkaryame Karmayogam” EP 04 SBVC TTTD @ 20minutes. Adiyen believe, Swami would have noticed the fly glue trap and tried to address in a polished way during the discourse.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5VplOa5ZmEA

(FYI, Swami also deatils today’s Enpani 729 ” Samarpanamum Purithalum” in this discourse).

Adiyen also has heard in one of the EnpaNi about ‘Cleanliness’, not sure which one. Swami says, keep the vessels cleaned at night before sleep, if not it attracts unnecessary poochis.

But it is true that the situation becomes difficult in practical life as the Baktha says ” Ava avaalukku varumbodhu dhan kamyartha bhakthi arumai puriyum” in case of poisonous creatures.

Swami ‘Embar’ who is the next Acharyan in GuruParamparai lineage after Swami Ramanujar once saw a snake suffering with a thorn caught inside its mouth. Swami Embar, opened its mouth and took the thorn out and let it go. The Antaryami ‘Perumal’ inside the snake changed snakes mind due to Embar Swami’s Jeeva kaarunyam.

So, we can Say, “Swami Embar Thiruvadigalaey Sharanam” with pure mind. With Acharya Embar grace, we will not face such creatures and gets avoided automatically, since these creatures causes our focus to get diverted and is a hindarance in our day-to-day life Kainkaryam. So GURU-BHAKTHI is the key answer.

Another routine that we can do to avoid “Poisonous creatures” like pooraan , scorpion, snake, etc…… is to chant ‘Garuda Dandakam’ stotram by Swami Vedanta Desikan after paying repect to Baktha’s own GuruParamparai. These creatures will never come near us with Swami Vedanta Desikan anugraham. We can see the effect with Guru-Bakthi.

“Garuda Mantram” can be chanted only by ThriVarnikar’s (Brahman, Kshathriyan, Vaishyan) and cannot be chanted by other varnas and all females, since chanting mantras requires Upanayanam (Poonool) initiation. So, Swami Vedanta Desikan has made as ‘Stotram’ as ‘Garuda Dandakam’ by hiding the ‘Garuda Mantram’ inside the stotram, so everyone can chant.

If it is difficult to learn and chant, then we can atleast play the ‘Garuda Dantakam’, after paying respect to GuruParamparai and Swami Vedanta Desikan. It has same effect as chanting.
