Can ekadashi fasting be done by married women as well ? Or is it only for men and widows? I am asking because some people say that ekadashi is not for married women..

Adiyennuku therintha varai (As far as I know), there is no such mention. Everybody can and should do ekadesi fasting. Sastras are lenient on some categories of people like elderly people, kids etc. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Actually, according to Sastras Ekadashi vratha is mandatory for all. But Sanathana Dharma Sashtras are lenient towards inability and age. So in short YES you should.

Hence from age of 8 to 80 years this is mandated and relaxed (not consuming rice) for children below age of 8 and elders above age of 80.

Similarly relaxation of consuming food other than rice (milk, or fruits or some tiffin not containing rice grains in decreasing order of recommendation) based on health and medication of person is allowed.

Ekadashi fast is followed by Dwadashi early meals called Parana which is equally important as previous day fasting.

Dashami  and Dwadashi day nights again rice is to be avoided.

My North Indian colleagues fast “nirjala” (without water) ekadeshi. They are my inspiration.
