Divya prabhandham – Periya thirumozhi, Siva

Namaskaram.

Thirumangai azhwar, in his Periya thirumozhi, states at several pasurams that Perumal has given part of His body to Siva.

Pasuram No 1798

அக்கும் புலியின் அதளும் உடையார் அவரொருவர்,

பக்கம் நிற்க நின்ற பண்பர் ஊர்போலும்

தக்க மரத்தின் தாழ்சினையேறி, தாய்வாயில்

கொக்கின் பிள்ளை வெள்ளிற வுண்ணும் குறுங்குடியே,

Pasuram No 1841

ஏறுமேறி இலங்குமொண் மழுப்பற்றும் ஈசற் கிசைந்து, உடம்பிலோர்

கூறுதான் கொடுத்தான் குலமாமகட் கினியான்,

நாறு சண்பக மல்லிகை மலர்புல்கி இன்னிள வண்டு,நன்னறுந்

தேறல்வாய் மடுக்கும் திருக்கோட்டி யூரானே.

It not the same case as, that where everything is stated to be Perumal’s body. I understand that Perumal did this as appreciation due to the tapas done by Lord Siva. This shows that Perumal Himself accepted Siva. When such is the case, why followers of sampradayam does not recognise / respect Siva, and avoid him totally, while respecting, glorifying and (even) worshipping other srivaishnavite mahans.

My appa used to say, “pakkam nindra piraan aazhwar has sung about lord Shiva”

The glorify part may be done as “Dasabhutha svata sarvey”
– Mantra Raja Pada Sthothram

Not as “aham sarvam karishyAmi” – Srimath Ramayanam
As a super soul

अहं सर्वं करिष्यामि जाग्रत स्स्वपतश्च ते।।2.31.25

This is acceptable as Lakshmana swamy in service motive.

Hey Sita Rama I will do everything for you when you are awake & asleep.

Not just “I will do everything as God”

There is a difference.

So lord Shiva can be glorified

Adiyen also not well versed with all shlokams but one thing struck adiyen is that the superiority will not work but NaichyAnusandhAnam always works when it comes to Perumal.

Presently I am studying “Nalayira Divya Prabhandham” by Azhagar Nambi, a printed book. Difficult to provide the meaning from the book.

Suggest check for any online information.

But perhaps I don’t want to go into the details at this point.

We should always go by Swamy Periya vAchAn Pillai who sung based on AzhwAr hrudhayam.

So any explanation or derivation based on that will be acceptable.

No worries Swamy, my husband is always great. Even if it is AmitAbh Bachan , my Husband is great for me.

Devareer should read in that context. Then sensitivity of any such commentary will pin point ekAgraha chinthanai.

If Vishnu can search Shiva’s leg & can’t find it in Shiva PurANam then I don’t mind reading superiority of SrinivAsa Perumal and Narasimhan to other devatAs.

After reading the meaning of these pasurams in the printed book, before posting this thread, I cross checked with this site.

I have concentrated only on the meaning for these pasurams mentioned in the விளக்க உரை w.r.to பதவுரை and did not get digress.

I attempted to get some details as quoted in பதவுரை for pasuram 1798, from இருபத்தினாலாயிரப்படி, but could not get any through online. In the absence of that information, I did not want to quote this reference in my reply, since I wanted to doubly confirm.

Otherwise, this உரை confirms Siva is given a place in His body by Perumal.

ஸ்ரீ காஞ்சி பிரதிவாதி பயங்கரம் அண்ணங்கராசாரியார் had done lot of work for the sampradayam and his work is commendable (I am not eligible to comment). One can find many of his works online, but it will be difficult to understand the language (tamil).

In several pasurams one can find that “Siva is given a place in His body by Perumal”, not only in these two.
