chanting purusa suktam

Namaskarams!

We are born in a brahmin family. My father started learning purusa suktam by listening to a youtube video of a veda class where the guru was teaching his students to chant purusa suktam. He learnt it and started reciting it. When we heard in Swami’s upanyasam that mantras like purusa suktam must be properly learnt from a guru and if not chanted in that way can lead to negative results, he stopped reciting. Now our question is, does learning from a person through a youtube video count as learning from a guru even though the video was just a public video not intended for any particular person? If not, can anyone suggest where we can learn purusa suktam properly? We live in Canada.

Sri Ramanuja Munaye Namaha,

Dear Baktha,

1)
Please check with your local Temple Archagar Bhattar Swami (Priest), where to learn. They should be able to guide you.

If Baktha is living in Toronto area, then there is a Hindu Temple which has a dedicated ‘SriVaishnava Section’ with Perumal Sannidhi, Thayar Sannidhi, Alwar-Acharyas Sannidhi and Ram Parivar Sannidhi etc.. as below website link. Please check with Bhattar Swami’s.

Even if, Baktha is not living in Toronto area, Bhattar Swami’s should be able to get you some contacts in Canada vicinity.

2)
Please also check with Vedics.org (USA), if they can provide some information to Baktha.
[Vedics.org coordinated Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swami’s 2016 Upanyasam tour in Canada-USA].

Please try if this helps.

Please get blessings from your family Vadhyar Swami or your Pancha Samskara Acharyan Swami first before learning locally.
