Chandran, Chathurthi day and Blame relationship?

In Mahabharata, Shri Krishna when trying to find out cause of blame that accrued upon Himself in the context of theft of Shyamantaka mani, the answer rests in the fact of having seen Chandran on a Chathurthi day.
I kindly request to clarify if this happening is correct and whether such a cause and effect affects us also if happened to see Chandran on such days.
