Dear Swamy, Periyava,

Namskarangal,

Atleast I have seen sometimes people or friends or colleagues are not fully committed to their work/dharma/family but they live very cool , no-tension, joyful. But some people who are committed to their Faith, Good practices, family are felt Busy or stressful! How this type of situation handled by Ramanuja acharya ! In his life time he must have seen Blockers, Haters, Ramanuja acharya never got angry/ Sad / waiting ?!. How is the commitment can be handled stress free. Swamy your nice words please.

Adiyen Ramanuja dasan.

One possible way out would be with the in-depth understanding and staunch faith in the shastras and what all Bhagwan prescribed to his bhakta, in turn, a fearless and stress less feeling of his Leela, his duty, and his karvi (Instrument) in making the tasks to initiate and at the end a successful completion.

Bhagavad Gita:

18.37:

yat tad agre viṣham iva pariṇāme ‘mṛitopamam
tat sukhaṁ sāttvikaṁ proktam ātma-buddhi-prasāda-jam

That which seems like poison at first, but tastes like nectar in the end, is said to be happiness in satva gunam. It is generated by the pure intellect that is situated in self-knowledge (i.e. knowledge/ realisation of “adiyen Ramanuja-dasan”).

18.38:

viṣhayendriya-sanyogād yat tad agre ’mṛitopamam
pariṇāme viṣham iva tat sukhaṁ rājasaṁ smṛitam

Happiness is said to be in the rajo gunam when it is derived from the contact of the senses with their objects. Such happiness is like nectar at first but poison at the end.

18.39:

yad agre chānubandhe cha sukhaṁ mohanam ātmanaḥ
nidrālasya-pramādotthaṁ tat tāmasam udāhṛitam

That happiness which covers the nature of the self from beginning to end, and which is derived from sleep, indolence, and negligence, is said to be in tamo gunam.

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha
Swamy,
Why ” poison at first, but tastes like nectar in the end”?

Also, why thiruparkadal came visham first then nectar any significance?

Therefore, when we are trying to be sincere in the path of spiritual perfection, we are expected to experience some amount of stress and anxiety in the beginning; but soon it will lead to lasting happiness.

On the otherhand, those who take the easy way out now, it may seem ‘cool’ now, but such actions and attitude only gets them more entangled in this world of karma.

Let us take a very very simple example – giving up the habit of drinking coffee. We can take the stress and anxiety for a week or 15 days and then be completely free from the addiction the rest of our life. Or, we can be ‘cool’ and keep drinking coffee and get more and more addicted, and also face the financial and health burden arising out of this habit.

Kambandasan swami. Mikka nandri for the response. It’s been quite a while now that Adiyen has not contributed to the forum. Govinda Narayana Swami created the thread which is quite similar to my situation for the past few weeks now. At the back of my mind, Adiyen feels that even with learning something new, it is only to contribute to our sampradaya somehow. However, it also creates a sense of ahankara which in turn leads to ignorance with asking Divya Dampathi to make the task a success. High involvement in the Laukika Vishyangal is making Adiyen participate very little in the sampradaya Vishaya eg. Very little involvement with listening to upanayasms, Less shradhai to performing nitya anushtanams etc.. Carrying on with laukika activities is dragging Adiyen to Laukika Kamam. However, the good part is being aware of it and trying to change it as soon as possible. Would like Bhagwata Utamas to advise and suggest adiyen, on how to change this habit and follow a balanced approach.

Adiyen

only ‘Bhagawata Utamas’ should answer or even ordinary persons like myself can try and blabber something?

Srimate Ramaanujaye Namaha,

Welcome back Swamy. What you have explained in the last post explains more clearly the problem that Govindan  swamy has asked about.

As we try to become more devoted, the old vaasanas and habits still try to pull us into them.

So we end up trying to do our 1) spiritual duties , 2) material duties(study/work) and occasionally 3) some/more wastage of time in normal loukikka activities ( social media,  TV internet, long phone calls, news etc..) this combination of three things makes our life busy and we need up finding it stress full.

The easiest way to become less stressful is to remove the third category of activities as much as possible from our life.. (it is actually quite difficult but can happen with the mercy of Acharya and the Lord). (For some part of the time when i want to use internet i turn to this forum so that it is useful time spent !)

One aspect which i have been trying to use to get out of this to have a clear regulated daily schedule or routine so that the mind cannot play tricks and we can remain focused in our spiritual duties and material duties alone.  It is only one part of the solution, there are many parts of this puzzle  which i hope would evolve with further discussion here.

Aha nicely summarised 1,2,3… Going to continue the focus on dharma sandeha forum, upanyasam, Enpani, family Pani… Divine divine only really happy

Dear Ramanuja Parakalan swamy, namaskaram.

my understanding is, it is not that we are busy with material life and therefore we are missing our spiritual commitments. The fact is, because we miss our spiritual commitments we are getting more and more engrossed in material activities and carried away by the desire for success and recognition, and tend to get deeper into material activities. As described in the Bhagavad Gita, rajo gunam puts us in a spiral of desires.

As long as we are in satva gunam we do our spiritual commitments properly, and becasue of the regulated life the material desires do not bother us much; we know it is there, but we are not influenced by it. But somehow if we miss our spiritual commitments (eg. nithya anushtanam or hearing en pani or other upanyasam) then the rajo gunam takes upper hand; and it grows and grows; we start missing more and more of our spiritual commitments, and before we notice we have completely lost the routine! “however the good part is, we are aware of it and we try to change”!

How to change? The first step: lift both hands fall totally flat in front of Thayar and declare, “I can not reset myself back to regular spiritual routine on my own effort. Please help me. The recently acquired desires are going to bother me; unless you show your special mercy I will be lost; please save me Amma”. Miraculously our path will be cleared immediately and we will be able to reset ourself to “regulated daily schedule or routine” of our spiritual commitments like nithya-anushtanam and en pani / upanyasam hearing. Once these satva gunam activities are in place, teh forces of our desires are kept in check.

With careful following of this routine (and daily prayer to Thayar) we can sustain this satva gunam; even if we fall to rajo gunam again, once again we can beg our Mother to rescue us.

While woking like this, we will still be bestowed with the basic level of ‘success’ in our material endeavors too. So, there is no compromise on that too!

Recently there was a thread on Perumal initiating the cycle of creation inspired by the glance of Thayar. I don’t have full understanding about that; but one thing I know for sure is, whenever I pray to Thayar for help to reinstate me, Perumal’s special mercy can be easily felt iimmediately!!

Acharyan thiruvadigale saranam

Divya-Dampathi thirivadigale saranam.

Throwing off  swathanthriyam shall help. If it is not possible by oneself, prayer will be helpful.

Thank you kambandasan, Sri Vaishnava Dasan, and Enpani fan swami for your beautiful insights. Which is very much practical and because of utamas, sharing their invaluable comments, the miracle is felt profusely from Divya Dampathigal. Once again Thank you very much

It is really great to note about the miracle. Perumal works on the craving of an individual.
