Brahmins selling eatables – false allegation and safe guarding money

Namaskaram.

Couple of latest threads discussed about some action of Brahmins and this prompted me to initiate this thread. adiyen would like to narrate (bit longer, bear it, request people who blindly support them to avoid reading) an incident. But I would not say this is the case with all of them. Probably, this will force me a cautious approach to deal with them.

A popular temple, popular utsav day, more than 1000 devotees within the temple complex, heavy rain for an hour. Devotees took shelter wherever place was available within the temple and the point of interest is the 12 feet x 12 feet mandapam, where eatable (deliberately avoided the word prasadam) are sold at front side (main sales) of the four sides.

Half the mandapam occupied by 5 sellers (brahmins with vadakalai namam, not sure whether they are bhagavatas) and materials on the front side. Rest of the place, at the back side was empty. There was little more than 5 feet space available on (sub sales side) one side after the seller. There was neither any material kept nor sales in this 5 feet gap. About 3 feet extended coverage was made on top on this side for protection against sun / rain.

The rain was quite heavy and not sure about the time of start of the utsavar’s ula. As I can not stand for more than 30 – 45 mins, I sat close to the pillar at the rear end, leaving a gap of about a metre from that sales man. I just utilised the time available to get into meditative mood. Two ladies sat, filled that gap and about 25+ devotees took shelter by standing on our side (completely covering the sub sales side), leaving no space even to stand under that cover.

After some time, the sellers were asking these 2 ladies (only) to take shelter at some other place, even while it was raining. But they got up and continue to sit and this went on for a couple of cycles and finally started standing. I thought, the seller did not like ladies sitting next to him. Due to rain the sales was less.

Continuation …

Rain stopped and symptoms of utsavar’s ula was given. (In the process, I was sitting there for 1.5 hrs) I got up to watch. Immediately one of the salesman screamed at me saying that I have been sitting there for quite long disturbing the business and other salesmen joined him one after the other. I said you have not told me, for which he replied whether you need to be told separately, I said yes. I told them I disturbed neither their sales nor getting the eatables from madapalli in anyway. They kept on harping on their point and said I should not occupy that place as they have taken on auction. They said their cash is not safe. The cash is handled at the front side while I sat at the rear side. An utterly idiotic statement, meaning the cash can be looted (by the people around ?). How such a thing is possible on a rainy day with huge gathering within the temple. I told them to speak with மனசாட்சி.

Two more visiting brahmins also started supporting them (with vadakalai namam). I told them, I am educated, served in a respectable dept, I know about the situation and it is a false allegation. Though they kept quiet saying they are only visitors, kept on supporting them. I negated whatever salesmen mentioned and said they are lying. I told I have no business at this mandapam, once the utsavar crosses and because of people like us, you get the business, so behave yourself for the sake of your customers. I was only trying to defend and not gone on to offense based on his statement ‘safety’.

It was a heated argument / discussion and went on for about 5 mins. Ended with No apology or No win state from either side.

The fact is that those standing only affected the sales and the cash was handled near the main sales side. If at all, they should have complained against those who were standing and obstructing the sales. It was totally a baseless, false allegations. I did not discuss these in detail in an offending direction involving other devotees. Not sure, whether others did not feel bad on being told about safety and hence, suspicious of looter?.

No one else supported me and I managed all of them alone. Some may say I could have simply walked out of the place. Had I kept quiet, it would have raised doubt on me.

I was wearing thenkalai namam, with dhoti and without upper garments. No respect for a vaishnavite from the vadakalai namam brahmins.

I served 31 years in a department which protects.

Continuation ….

Well. Those salesmen have exhibited rajo gunam, took auction, bothered about safe guarding money, complained totally a baseless and false allegations – can they be brahmins?. They mentioned clearly, they are doing business, that means vaisyas. But vaisyas won’t exhibit such behaviour. Then what to call them?. I believe such an attitude will not be there in the lower varna opposing someone taking shelter for rain. In fact, they will adjust and accommodate.

People sitting comfortably under shelter, will not know the problem of getting drenched. If such is the case who will respect them. Mere birth in a top varna can not bring one respect. Behaviour brings respect. These brahmins lacked civic sense, மனசாட்சி and are inhuman.

I complained to the utsavar that they are calling me a looter, thus calling YOU too a looter and look into this. They should be made to feel their mistake.

Swamy, we all have great regard about the previous ‘Kanchi MahaPeriyavar’. I have heard a story that his predecessor once went on a yatra to some pilgrim place in the northern part of India; there he came across a place where food was sold; he was shocked that “annam is being sold”; he saw that as a sign of fast maturation of kali yuga, and within a very short time he left this world.

Swamy, especially ‘big big’ temples are highly infected with people whose consciousness is totally derailed.

The more we invest our thoughts in them, the more we will be affected. Does that mean that we should completely ignore and accept what they are doing as correct? No! We should be clear that what they are doing is indeed wrong; and we should educate our children etc of the same. Secondly, we should see if there is anything we can really do to change the attitude of these people. If yes, we can do so. If not, we can leave it to Perumal, and move on. Let such not let our mind dwell on such negative thoughts for longer than what it deserves. Let us dwell on the positives around us.

Perumal will take care of these negatives in His own way!

swamy,

Surprisingly, it has not lingered for too long, not even a day. As I have indicated, I have represented it to Him and left. I posted here, since I wanted to share.

Jayaram Swami,

Undoubtedly, this is an act to be condemned and you have done the right thing to the best of your abilities. Unfortunately, most of our people lack the courage to question (or at least join hands in questioning) the wrongdoings of such silly chaps.

However, in my opinion, a filthy mindset has nothing to do with Vadakalai or Thenkalai.

For instance, one of my friends following Vadakalai had a bitter experience while doing sAshtAnga namaskAram at a popular Thenkalai temple.

So please don’t take it to your heart, rather treat it as individual/group behaviour at that instance, condemn them, and move forward.

swamy,

Thank you for the response.

As I have indicated, I have represented it to Him and left. I also mentioned in the initial post that “But I would not say this is the case with all of them.”

Namaskaaram SriVaishanava Dasan swami,

Yes these things have to be condemned certainly. Adiyen can understand devareer’s situation. I personally have faced some ill treatment from some so-called brahmins in my school days.

I am not sure if I can post these things here. Please read this with an open mind. The purpose of this post is not to spread hatred.

While I was in 8th standard, I went to a JEE coaching class. Most people were brahmins there. So they formed groups, leaving me alone. After a year I somehow was able to get some good marks in the tests they kept in the class. So there was one arrogant brahmin boy who confronted me and punched me hard. When I questioned him for this action, he replied stating it was ‘just for fun’. In fact there was no characteristics of a brahmin in him. He was an athletic person who was very strong. I was scared to further attend those classes because I was alone.

I had similar encounters with him after this, till 10th standard, after which ultimately he changed to another coaching class. One could easily tell that his punches were not for ‘fun’. Rather it was violent at times, which arised out of jealousy.

Another incident I can recall is while I was in 11th-12th standard. I had several encounters with a brahmin boy who always made fun of me with his brahmin group. One day while I was outside he saw my wallpaper in adiyen’s phone which had Lord Krishna’s photo. He mocked me for this stating that I was a ‘Bhakthi pazham’, and that I was immature. There was also another class topper who belonged to Thenkalai Vaishnava family and he was very close to the guy I mentioned. He also always had the habit to mock me in front of everyone.

Adiyen would like to end this here. I cannot mention each and every situation. With these situations I cannot come to the conclusion that every Brahmin is like this. But I can say for certain that out of the brahmins I met in my school days, not even one of them had good qualities that were worthy to be praised.

One conclusion is certain though and that is “Strong dominates the Weak”.

Please forgive adiyen if I have committed apachaarams.

adiyen dasan.

(P.S.: I would like to say again that this is NOT an attempt to spread hatred against brahmins. Whoever has the above said qualities has to be condemned certainly regardless of the caste that person belongs to.)

Thinking about these incidents now, adiyen can certainly say that my papa karmas were extinguished and that is very good. If these situations hadn’t happened I would have never come to this path. These incidents made adiyen realize about the pangs of the material world which we live in.

Thank you for the response.

I understand about your experience. They excel in sports too, be it cricket, swimming, boxing…. It is good thing for the nation.

But, fortunately, mostly, I had comfortable movement with them all along. During my post graduation in a premier Institute, out of the regular students I was the only non brahmin. I had cordial movement with everyone. But it was 35 years back.

While papa is reduced on one side, it is increased on the other side.

Yes swami agreed. It is also disappointing to think about the unfortunate situation in present times.

Srimathe Rangaramanuja Mahadesikaya Namaha

In Bangalore Brahmins (Iyer) sell non-veg.

I asked them why?
They said, we are outsourcing to cater to non-veg people also. As it is business it is not wrong.

They don’t even know or care Divya Prabandham is different from Veda Parayanam.

Thank you for your support.

I knew about your kalai.

Restriction for both kalais from singing for some time, till they realize and unite. This issue has degraded the respect over srivaishnavas in general public.

Did not mention – I am wearing ‘poonool’.

on May 18, 2022

I have not spoken a single word for 1.5 hrs, till he screamed. The court issue was not mentioned by either side.
Now suspecting, could court issue be the reason for their behaviour?.

Shravanan of Swami’s Upanyasams

One thing for sure, We Brahmins are good in online forums only.

My apologies from Brahmin’s behalf for their stupidity. I suppose I am a Brahmin, I hope so.

My side, most my non Brahmin colleagues call me

“White cross group” why?

BrahminA porandhadhu en thappA?

Idhu sariyA? Is it okay to brand like that?

Unfortunately I have no groups. Yevanum sethuka maatengaraan 😭 🤭

I eat only veg
I don’t drink
I don’t smoke
I don’t eat egg cakes

I avoided vengAyam pundu sometime back
Did ekAdeshi vrathams sometime back (now not regular)

So no party whatsoever not interested in them either but they want me to socialize. What to do?

But people who know me say “You are different from other Brahmins” . I don’t believe in sectarianism. It’s not going to help anyone.

Vadakalai will fight with me because I support Thenkalai
Thenkalai will fight with me just because I am a Vadakalai 😂

Not all but generalizing.
See being a SriVaishnavite is more important.

“Adiyen” should come from heart I believe

KoorathAzhwanum kadhai mozham Neelam padichuttu ,

I hate Thenkalai nu sonna what nonsense did you read then?

I know the sentiments. It’s not that I don’t know the value of Kainkaryam of each sect. Why conflict is my only question?

Nee un vazhila po
Naa en vazhila poren

Coming to Unity, we all have same color blood & flesh.

As AthmA we all are equal. After I die , My current body will be called corpse.

How will I know they wear this body panchakacham in my death bed? Nei thadavuvAlO mAttAlO?

En appa kku nei thadavavEy illai

We all are RamAnujA’s thiruvadi sambandhis

That’s the only connecting factor. Rest all is immaterial.

Namaskaaram Vikram swami,

The point of my post is not sectarianism. I have only condemned the ‘pasunthol porthiya puli’ type of Brahmins. I always respect sincere Brahmins.

Although this was the case with some of the Brahmin ‘classmates’, adiyen respect my tuition teacher very much, who is also a Brahmin and she is also a Sri Vaishnavi. And of course there are a lot of sincere people in this forum too.

The so called Brahmins I mentioned earlier were non veg eaters and they themselves weren’t disciplined.

The problem caused by these type of false Brahmins is, they are not setting the right example. They unfortunately bring disgrace to the whole community eventhough some people are sincere.

Adiyen have faced questions like ‘See even some of the Brahmins are eating non veg. Why don’t you eat?’, ‘Even the Brahmins don’t follow ahaara niyamam. Why are you trying to follow?’, etc.

This is a big problem, isn’t it?

Adiyen hope devareer understands.

Wine and meat are both evil, tempting, and injurious objects.

May be possibility of those who ate “avoidables” can correct themselves with correct “sambandam” -> currently Serkai seri illamai ! But when those B groups awake about their Divine background sure Perumal will bless them as “Bagahvathas” and correct it

Good & bad are everywhere. How religion fine tunes the “Good qualities of human” is a bigger factor.

I can call myself – SanAthana Dharmikan or Hindu or SriVaishnavan

With all these identities if I still engage in fights, I don’t belong anywhere. We are just creating an adulterated “brand”
